Dining Out: 5 Star: Cuisine of India’s Kerala region takes center stage

Calling themselves 5 Star may be a self-fulfilling prophesy for the owners of this new South Indian eatery in New Hyde Park. If we used a star rating system, they would be seeing multiple stars in their rating. Then again, they could just as easily have called it Mom’s, because in this family-owned-and-operated business, the matriarch, Tessy Chrian, is the one working the magic in the kitchen. Comment.

The Reel Queens: Queens-set ‘Blue Valentine’ makes showing at Cannes

Queens will be all over the cinematic map this summer as one of the two American films competing at the Cannes Film Festival was shot in the borough, three of the summer’s potential blockbusters were partially set in its neighborhoods and an Astoria filmmaker just wrapped a high-profile crime drama in western Queens.
