Cunningham Park offers host of activities for visitors

At the Oct. 15 meeting of the Friends of Cunningham Park, Borough Sports Coordinator Joseph Mauro presented the Shape Up New York athletic programs in several Queens parks. The idea of additional fitness programs in Cunningham Park was then discussed. Comment.

Dozens of people and two corporations were charged in a massive insurance fraud scheme last week for allegedly targeting Asian−American drivers in Flushing and staging car accidents to collect medical insurance payouts, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said. Comment.

CB 8 eyes intersection fix

Following a fatal accident in Fresh Meadows that took the life of community activist Bernard Sydnor last week, area residents were brainstorming over what can be done to change the intersection of Jewel Avenue and Parsons Boulevard, which they say is too dangerous for pedestrians. Comment.

Forest Hills residents will remember Kristallnacht Nov. 11, when Pulitzer Prize−nominated author Eva Fogelman, daughter of a Holocaust survivor, will speak at the Central Queens YM & YWHA in Forest Hills about individuals who rescued Jews during World War II. Comment.

No marina boat repair: CB 11

Northeastern Queens residents told Community Board 11 members at their monthly meeting Monday that they were concerned about two projects in the area, including a city proposal to repair boats at the Bayside Marina’s site and the construction of two hotels on a polluted lot in Fresh Meadows. Main break floods Fresh Mdws. streets

Fresh Meadows residents once again had to deal with flooded streets Monday, after a water main break just off Utopia Parkway caused water to rush down side streets and a portion of the intersection of 184th Street and 54th Avenue to collapse, the Office of Emergency Management and the city Department of Environmental Protection said. Comment.
