Hillcrest school lot approved

The City Council has approved a 50−spot parking lot for the upcoming Gateway to Health Sciences Secondary School in Hillcrest, which could alleviate neighborhood concerns about a lack of parking in the community, Councilman James Gennaro (D−Fresh Meadows) said. Comment.

FDNY, Parks working on Totten security plan: Padavan

State Sen. Frank Padavan (R−Bellerose) said the city Parks Department is planning to coordinate with the NYPD and FDNY to provide some sort of security at Bayside’s Fort Totten following the FDNY’s recent decision to terminate its private security services at the park. Comment.

Gennaro wants drilling ban

City Councilman James Gennaro (D−Fresh Meadows) urged support last week from the city’s community boards for his resolution that calls upon state lawmakers to pass a law to ban gas drilling in the state’s water supply areas, including the city’s drinking water watershed. Comment.

Janitor gets jail time for theft of 8 Torahs

A former janitor at the Jewish Center of Kew Gardens Hills was sentenced in Queens Supreme Court last Thursday to one year in jail after pleading guilty to stealing the temple’s eight Torahs, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said. Comment.
