Middle Village activist dies in accident upstate

Longtime community activist Francesco Sansivieri Jr. of Middle Village died Oct. 29 when a cab he and two other passengers were riding in was struck by a logging truck in Greene County in upstate New York Oct. 29. He was 48.

The driver and another passenger, Natia Tediashavili, 32, of Woodhaven, were also pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police. A Flushing resident was injured.

Sansivieri, a junior high school teacher at IS 73, was a widely respected community leader who fought for the preservation of Queens neighborhoods. He made two unsuccessful bids for a state Senate seat.
