It may seem like a daunting task, but Bob Mackey is taking it in stride. The Christ the King girls varsity basketball team has been one of the best high school teams in the nation for the past decade and this year, Mackey is taking over the head coaching position.
The man who built the program into the perennial powerhouse, Vinnie Cannizarro, is now an assistant at Division I Stony Brook, leaving a team still expected to win the state Federation Class A championship, a feat the Royals have accomplished for 10 straight seasons.
