North Shore-L.I. Health loses Prez David Dantzer

The North Shore-Long Island Health System announced Friday that the president of the health conglomerate, Dr. David Dantzer, had resigned.

Dantzer, the former head of Long Island Jewish Medical Center, became the co-president and co-chief executive of the $2.5 billion North Shore-Long Island Health System with John Gallagher, the former head of the North Shore Health System, when the hospitals merged more than two years ago.

Newsday reported Saturday that the Health System disclosed the resignation in an April 14 letter to the board of trustees from its chairman, Saul Katz and chairman-elect Roy Zuckerberg. According to Newsday, the letter praised the accomplishments of Dantzer but provided no details on why the president had decided it was time to leave.

A spokeswoman for the hospital said nobody has addressed what happened and that the only communication from the board has been the letter to the board of trustees.
