Six arrested in attacks on Queens cab drivers

As the city grapples with the recent spike in attacks on livery cab drivers, a half dozen people were arrested as suspects this week in four crimes against drivers in western Queens.

In the past four months, nine livery cab drivers have been murdered while on the job in the city. Only one of the slayings took place in Queens, but the borough has not been spared from the jump in violence against the car-service drivers and Queens drivers are fearful for their safety.

The Police Department has devoted its Street Crimes Unit to cracking down on the attacks, and Mayor Giuliani has offered to give the drivers cell phones programmed only to call 911.
