Brooklyn man convicted in Richmond Hill rapes

By Michelle Han

A Brooklyn man was convicted last week of the rapes of five women in Richmond Hill, Jamaica, and neighboring areas in 1996 and 1997.

Andre Greene, a 29-year-old electrician, was found guilty last Thursday after a three-week trial before a jury in State Supreme Court in Kew Gardens before Judge Richard Buchter. He faces a maximum sentence of more than 100 years in prison.

Greene, of 790 Eldert Lane in Brooklyn, put on only a short defense after prosecutors concluded their case June 27. He was the only witness to take the stand on his behalf and he denied knowing four of the five women. He acknowledged having sex with the fifth victim, but said it was consensual.
