To The Point: It

By Sabina Cardali

Welcome to the Point. The Point being College Point.

The Times/Ledger celebrated the 65th Anniversary of the Bayside Times at the elegant restaurant, Caffe On The Green. Of course, owner Joe Franco was greeting everyone. The place was overwhelmed with newspaper people, politicians and friends.

Publisher Steven Blank greeted all the invited guests with wife, Holly. Queens Borough President Claire Shulman presented Steven Blank with a proclamation denoting the special day. State Senator Frank Padavan, Congressman Gary Ackerman, Councilman Mike Abel, Councilman Mort Povman, and Councilwoman Helen Marshall joined in the special wishes.

A beautiful commemorative Anniversary Issue also was included with the weekly newspapers.

MacNeil Park had its Sunday summer concert this week featuring the Goliard Singers with Broadway show tunes. Although there was a problem in the beginning with the audio, this was corrected in the second half and everyone enjoyed the show. State Senator Padavan came to the concert and greeted his many friends in the audience.
