Asian beetle strikes Flushing Meadows

To the dismay of the city Parks Department and tree lovers everywhere, the Asian Longhorned Beetle made a surprise reappearance in Queens last week in three trees in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, the city announced Monday.

The Asian beetle was found last summer in areas around Flushing Meadows but not in trees inside the 1,255-acre park, which is the third largest in the city. A spokeswoman for the Parks Department said the agency would conduct a full survey of the park to determine the extent of the Asian Beetle infestation.
