Padavan sues to eliminate challenger

By Adam Kramer

Less than three weeks after the deadline for submitting nominating petitions for political office, Queens candidates for state and federal offices are trying to find ways to knock their opponents out of the race.

This was highlighted in the state Senate race between 14-term incumbent Frank Padavan (R-Bellerose) and his challenger, Democrat Rory Lancman. Padavan has sued to have Lancman removed from both the Democratic Party ballot and the Working Families Party line.

Padavan, who is in a heated re-election race against Lancman, filed the lawsuit claiming that the WFP is not a legally recognized party and should not be allowed to place candidates on the ballot.
