How funny are you?

By David Glenn

Are you a budding new Seinfeld somewhere out there in Queens?

One way you can find out is to enter “The Funniest Resident of Queens” contest at Stand-Up New York, a comedy club at 236 West 78th St. in Manhattan. “If you are a resident of Queens and have an incurable urge to be funny, here is the chance to do it on the stage of a professional comedy club,” says the club's publicity.

“You'd be surprised how talented some of them are,” said Bob Anzelowitz, publicist for the club.

The contest will be held on a series of week nights beginning in late September, and will culminate in the All City Grand Finals about two months later. Each borough winner will compete in the finals to win a paid, one-night booking at Stand-Up New York.

There is no charge to enter the contest, but the contestant has to bring four paying guests to the club on the night he or she performs. “They're usually more than happy to do that,” Anzelowitz said.

Each contestant must be an amateur, have proof of Queens residency, and prepare five minutes of material including at least one reference to Queens. There are no auditions, and the contestant has free reign on the content of the act.
