Jamaica youth sharpen tennis skills at park

Venus and Serena Williams may have grown up in southern California and visited Queens only to compete in the U.S. Open, but aspiring tennis players in Jamaica look at them as hometown heroes.

Most of the participants in the Gotham Tennis Emporium, a youth tennis program based at Detective Keith Williams Park in Jamaica, have started playing within the last two years, after the Williams sisters became prominent contenders on the world tennis stage.
