Country in the city

Gray skies or not, children stuffed straw into shirts and jeans to make scarecrows, petted farm animals, sat on tractors, and munched on treats as the Queens Farm Museum brought a slice of country to New York City.

There was plenty of fresh air, green grass, straw, animals, and lots of other attractions. A hay ride gave children a tour through labyrinthian trails in and around the 47 acres that make up the Queens County Farm. Little ones also lined up for pony rides. And what country fair would be complete without funnel cakes, gyros and shish kebabs, homemade cider and honey, corn-on-the-cob, and ice cream?
