Heading the priorities recommended by the executive committee for the fiscal year 2002 capital budget was the proposal to reconstruct Grover Cleveland Park and to erect a pedestrian crosswalk at Cooper Avenue.
Improvements at the 5.1-acre park will include new playing services, equipment, landscaping, better lighting and new bathrooms.
Some $475,000 for the project was secured last month by City Councilman Thomas Ognibene (R-Middle Village), while Queens Borough President Claire Shulman earmarked $750,000 for bathrooms.
The crosswalk recommendation came from residents who contend the street is unsafe, said Mary Tschinkel, assistant to the district manager. The board responds to what it thinks is the most important recommendation, she said.
