By Kathianne Boniello

Carrozza defeated longtime Republican Doug Prescott in 1996 for the 26th Assembly District, which includes Bayside, Little Neck, Douglaston, Auburndale, Bay Terrace, north Flushing, Beechhurst, Malba and Whitestone.

Between January 1999 and October 2000, Carrozza raised $56,898.36, according to campaign finance documents filed with the state Board of Elections. The assemblywoman spent $51,803.63 during that time, of which a little more than $13,300 went to Democratic campaigns and groups throughout the borough.

Since January 1999 Carrozza has spent nearly $3,000 at Murphy and Company, a flower company at 212-67 26th Ave. in Bayside, for funerals and other events.

Between January and July 1999, Carrozza made several large donations to Queens Democratic groups, including: three donations totaling $3,500 to the Queens County Democratic Organization; a $750 donation to the Democratic Assembly Campaign Committee; and a $240 contribution to Democrats for New Politics, a small political club based in northern Flushing.

In the period between July 1999 and January 2000, the assemblywoman continued the political donations, including: a $550 gift to the Jefferson Democratic Club; a $450 contribution to the FDR Democratic Association; and $300 donation to the Independence Party of Queens.

Carrozza also supported her fellow Democratic candidates in 1999, including: a $500 donation to the Friends of Toby Stavisky, the state senator representing Flushing; a $125 contribution to the election committee of Rory Lancman, who is running against state Sen. Frank Padavan (R-Bellerose); and two separate $100 contributions to David Weprin and Bernice Siegal, who plan to run in 2001 for City Councilman Sheldon Leffler's (D-Hollis) seat.

In the first half of 2000, the assemblywoman maintained her support of her fellow Democrats with several donations, including: a $1,600 contribution to the Democratic Organization of Queens; a $500 donation to the Jefferson Democratic Club; and a $500 gift to the Friends of Michael Giannaris, who is running for the state Assembly seat from Astoria.
