Police Blotter: Fresh Meadows complex target of several burglaries

In some instances locks were jimmied, in others there was no signs of forced entry, Steve Stadmeyer, Fresh Meadows Development property manager said. Stadmeyer said there have been 10 to 12 burglaries in the past 30 days.

A burglary arrest was recently made in a nearby neighborhood north of the Long Island Expressway, Stadmeyer said, but it was not clear if the cases were related.

Stadmeyer said FMD works closely with police, and several plainclothes officers are circulating throughout the complex.

Middle-aged woman struck by bus; driver leaves scene

BRIARWOOD- A woman in her 40s was struck and killed by a mini school bus as she was crossing the street at about 8:30 a.m. Monday, police said. The accident happened at 85th Avenue and 161st Street, said Police Officer Ralph Smith, a department spokesperson.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital and was declared dead on arrival, Smith said.

The school bus left the scene.

Police were investigating.

3 girls, boy sexually attacked in Jackson Heights school

JACKSON HEIGHTS — Four children between 6 and 8 were sexually assaulted in a Jackson Heights school Monday, police said.

Officer Lee Ann Tracer-Ader said two of the victims, a boy and a girl, were bringing the class attendance sheet to the front office at PS 89 Monday morning when they were approached by a man in a stairwell.

Tracy-Ader said the man sexually assaulted both children before fleeing.

Detective Robert Samuel said two other girls were sexually assaulted.

The school, at 85-28 Britton Ave., has one school safety officer and 2,000 students.

Gunmen rob pizza place in Forest Hills early Saturday

FOREST HILLS – An employee and a manager of a Pizza Hut in Forest Hills were robbed early Saturday morning by two gunmen, police said.

The two approached the employees as they were leaving the store at 125-10 Queens Blvd. at about 1:45 a.m. Saturday, Sgt. Billy Stiles said. The men showed a gun and stole cash before fleeing the scene.

No one was injured during the incident, Stiles said.

Police were investigating.

Brooklyn man charged in fatal Blissville DWI

BLISSVILLE – One man was killed and another arrested for driving while intoxicated in a motor vehicle accident on the Long Island Expressway in Blissville Monday night, police said.

Two cars collided at Borden Ave. and the Long Island Expressway at about 11 p.m. Monday night, police said.

Officer Chris Cottingham said Dexter McClean, 26, of 14-05 E 94 St, in Brooklyn was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital after he was allegedly hit by a vehicle driven by Perez Hernandez, of 930 Hart Ave. in Brooklyn.

Hernandez was arrested and charged with DWI, Cottingham said.

Two try to rob Woodside bank

WOODSIDE- Two men tried to rob the HSBC band on Northern Boulevard and 51st Street, police said.

Two men managed to drill through the walls and break into the unoccupied vault at about 9:45 a.m. Monday, but could not get any of the safes in the vault open. They then just fled, said Police Officer Ralph Smith, a department spokesperson.

There were no arrests by presstime.

Man shot while walking near Bailey Boulevard

SPRINGFIELD GARDENS — A man was shot Monday in Springfield Gardens while walking near Roy Wilkins Park, police said.

Officer Lee Ann Tracy-Ader said the victim, 30, was walking near the intersection of Baisley Boulevard and Merrick Boulevard.

The victim was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in stable condition with gunshot wounds to both legs, she said.

No arrests have been made, she said, and the investigation was continuing.

Laundry worker shot in Laurelton

LAURELTON- A 44-year-old laundry worker was shot early Friday morning at a Laundromat on Merrick Boulevard near 226th Street, police said.

The victim, an employee of the 24-hour Laundromat, was shot at about 2 p.m. a.m., said John Buthorn, a police spokesman.

The man was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in critical condition, but by Friday evening his condition was upgraded to serious, said Juliet Lewis, a hospital spokeswoman

Police were investigating.

150 fight early morning fire at Far Rockaway supermarket

FAR ROCKAWAY – About 150 firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze in a Far Rockaway supermarket early Sunday morning for more than two hours, the fire department said.

Lt. Kevin Ganun said the cause of the fire at 13-36 Beach Channel Dr. was under investigation.

The blaze broke out at about 2:20 a.m. and was brought under control around 5 a.m., he said.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. John's Hospital, Ganun said.
