Police Blotter: Firefighters in Floral Park suffer minor injuries

FLORAL PARK-Four firefighters suffered minor injuries and were treated at local hospitals after fighting a blaze at a private, two-story home at 84-68 259th St., said other firefighters who were on the scene.

The blaze occurred around 1 p.m. Monday afternoon, and involved Ladder Companies 152 and 162 and Engine Company 304. It was under control by about 2 p.m.

Firefighters said there were no major injuries, only property damage. However, they said the fire was suspicious and is under investigation.

Oakland Gardens woman reported missing

OAKLAND GARDENS-Police are looking for 26-year-old Suchma Perera, who was reported missing on Feb. 7 at 3 a.m. from her home at 79-29 Bell Blvd., Police Detective Madelyne Galindo said.

Galindo said Perera is 5 feet, 6 inches tall, has tan skin, brown eyes and black hair.

Galindo said Perera has a past psychological history.

South Ozone Park stab suspect killed by police

SOUTH OZONE PARK-Police responding to a call about a woman being stabbed, shot and killed the 37-year-old suspect, Donald Moore, Saturday morning when he allegedly refused to drop his knife, said Police Officer Joseph Cavitolo.

Cavitolo said the incident occurred at 109-12 133rd St. around 7 a.m., when officers arrived to find Moore allegedly stabbing a 33-year-old woman.

Cavitolo said the officers ordered Moore to drop the 12-inch blade, but he allegedly continued stabbing the victim.

The officers then fired on Moore, shooting him twice in his right arm and once in the right side of his chest, Cavitolo said.

Cavitolo said Moore died at Jamaica Hospital at 8 a.m. and his alleged victim, who was wounded in her left wrist, stomach, breast and neck, was in stable condition at the same medical facility.

Cavitolo said the responding officers were treated for trauma at Long Island Jewish Memorial.

Strangulation case probed

FLUSHING-Police are investigating the strangulation of Soon Ha Kim, 50, in the vicinity of 137-10 Franklin Ave., said Police Officer Joseph Cavitolo.

Cavitolo said the body was discovered around 8:05 a.m. between two cars Friday morning and no further information was available.

Kew Gardens Hills accident sends four men to hospitals

KEW GARDENS HILLS-Four men riding in a Mazda RX 7 that was speeding along Grand Central Turnpike Thursday were rushed to Jamaica and Mary Immaculate Hospitals after their car struck a guardrail near Union Turnpike and flipped over, said Police Officer Joseph Cavitolo.

Cavitolo said the two males seated in the front seat were thrown from the car. He said one was listed in critical condition, the second in stable condition.

Likewise, one of the two men who had been riding in the back of the vehicle was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, the second in stable, Cavitolo said.

No further information was available.

Corrections officer arrested for false report

FAR ROCKAWAY-An unidentified Nassau County corrections officer was arrested for falsely reporting an incident after he walked into the 101st Precinct on Mott Avenue and reported he had been robbed and his gun had been stolen, said Police Detective George Nagy.

Nagy said upon further investigation, officers of the 101st Precinct recovered the corrections officer's weapon in his own vehicle.

No further information was available.

Far Rockaway gang leader convicted of drug dealing

FAR ROCKAWAY-Queens District Attorney Richard Brown announced the conviction Friday of Gregory “Nef” Robinson, 29, of 41 Searing St., Hempstead, on charges involving to his leadership of a major Far Rockaway drug gang – the Regulators.

Brown said Robinson was convicted ofcharges of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third degree assault.

Sentencing was set for Feb. 17, and Robinson faces up to 25 years in prison, Brown said.

The DA said the Regulators had been in operation since the early 1990s, ruling the crack cocaine trade in the Edgemere Houses public housing complex on Beach Channel Drive and taking in about $1 million each year in sales.

Pair of teens hit by train on LIRR tracks

ELMHURST – Two 13-year-old boys were hospitalized after being hit by an eastbound Long Island Rail Road train Friday evening, an LIRR spokesman said.

LIRR spokesman Brian Dolan said the boys, whose names were not released, were on the tracks of the Port Washington-bound train when they were hit about 5:55 p.m. near 47th Avenue and 79th Street, just east of Woodside station.

Both boys were taken to Elmhurst Hospital, Dolan said. One suffered from internal injuries and the other had a broken pelvis and elbow, he said.

The incident disrupted service for more than an hour for eastbound trains and delayed westbound trains for an average of 12 minutes.

Dolan said it was unclear what the boys were doing on the tracks.

Rosedale men arrested on robbery charges

ROSEDALE-The Nassau County Police Department announced last Thursday the arrest of a Rosedale resident and charged him with having helped another Rosedale suspect commit a series of robberies throughout the county from late July through August, 1999.

On Aug. 26, 1999, police charged the first suspect, Richard Thomas, 25, of 241-20 144th Ave., with robbing a Valley Stream convenience store, grocery and bicycle stores in Lynbrook, two stationery stores and a bakery in New Hyde Park, a grocery store in North Lawrence, and card and gift shops in Mineola and Hicksville.

Police announced that they arrested Thomas' alleged accomplice, Kleve Panayoty, 17, of 21-19 Caney Rd., on Feb. 2 and charged him with helping Thomas commit all of the robberies except one at a New Hyde Park stationary store.

Police said Panayoty was also charged with robbing a Valley Stream mini-mart on Aug. 25, 1999.

Decomposing body found on Jefferson Avenue

RIDGEWOOD-The medical examiner will determine the cause of death of a man, approximately 85 years old, whose decomposing body was found in the vicinity of 1678 Jefferson Ave., said Police Officer Gary Cillo.

Cillo said the body was discovered around 3:35 p.m. Tuesday. No further information was available.

Travel agency safes missing

LONG ISLAND CITY-Police are seeking unknown suspects who stole two safes from the Delgadl Travel Agency at 25-09 Queens Boulevard early Monday morning, Detective Madelyne Galindo said.

Galindo said the theft was reported around 9 a.m. and that it appeared the thieves broke in through the building's rear door.

The safes, according to Galindo, contained approximately $1100 worth of blank airline tickets.
