Molloy, Christ the King skate to tie

By Dylan Butler

In what was a rematch of a classic three-game clash in Catholic High School Hockey League semifinals, Molloy and Christ the King battled to a 4-4 tie Saturday night at the Ice Hutch in Mount Vernon.

“I'm disappointed in the tie,” said Molloy coach Richie Rodgers. “But I'd rather take the tie than a loss. Christ the King played very well.”

Christ the King head coach Pat Boller echoed Rodgers statement, saying his team played one of its best games of the season.

“We needed a good game and we got it,” he said. “We've been coming along the last two games. We're struggling to make the playoffs so for us the tie was good.”

Junior forward Vinny Dove opened the scoring for the Royals on an assist from James Holford 2:45 into the first period. Molloy junior forward Nicky Wilk tied the score less than a minute later from John DiGregorio and Chris Edele. Junior Mike Brugess gave Christ the King (3-5-2 CHSHL B) a 2-1 lead with 1:13 left in the first. Wilk's second tied the score at two with 12:18 left in the second period but the Royals came back 11 seconds later as Sal Croce found the back of the net to put CTK ahead, 3-2.

Paul Tocco tied the score at 3 with 1:51 remaining in the second. Dove's second of the game put the Royals up, 4-3, with 29 seconds left, but Chris Pisarski scored four seconds later for Molloy (10-2-1) to tie the score at 4.
