Police Blotter: Minor injuries sustained in South Jamaica blaze

SOUTH JAMAICA – Several people suffered minor injuries after a fire in South Jamaica Friday morning, the Fire Department said.

Firefighter Vito Berretta said five people suffered minor injuries in the blaze at 138-48 102nd Ave. that occurred at about 4:30 a.m. Friday.

College Point stabbing leaves two men hurt

COLLEGE POINT – Two people were stabbed after a dispute at a bar in College Point early Monday morning, police said.

Detective Robert Samuel said the two victims were injured after a dispute with two men from Florida at the Roadhouse Bar at 120-07 20th Ave.

Police arrested Tate Thomas, of Palm City, Fla., and Randy Baatz of Dade City, Fla. in the incident, Samuel said. They were charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, he said.

Samuel said the victims were taken to New York Hospital. One suffered lacerations to the chest and abdomen, and another was stabbed in the abdomen, he said.

Homeowner tips to avoid burglaries

BAYSIDE – The 111th Police Precinct has released some helpful hints that may let homeowners avoid burglaries:

* Use timers throughout the house to light up individual rooms at different times of the day or night, whether or not you are at home. Lighting is one of the most effective and inexpensive crime deterrents.

* If you are going on vacation or leaving your home for an extended period of time, make sure to have all newspapers and magazines picked up from the outside of the house. Have the post office stop delivery when necessary.

Man shot, another stabbed, in Queens Village argument

QUEENS VILLAGE – A man was shot and another man was stabbed after a dispute in Queens Village early Friday morning, police said.

Cadet John Buthorn said one man was shot in the abdomen and a second man was stabbed three times in the abdomen after a dispute with an unknown suspect at 103-2 Springfield Blvd. at about 3 a.m. Friday.

The victims were taken to Jamaica Hospital, he said. An investigation is ongoing, he said.

Bellaire club altercation lands victims in hospital

BELLAIRE — Two men were attacked after a dispute at a Bellaire club Friday morning, police said.

One victim, 21, was shot and another, 30, was stabbed after a dispute at 2:20 a.m. at Tropical Paradise at 218-60 Hempstead Ave., Cadet John Buthorn said.

The victims were taken to Jamaica Hospital, Buthorn said. An investigation was ongoing, he said.

Pomonok death may be suicide

POMONOK – A man was found dead in a closet at his home Monday night in Pomonok, police said.

Officer Joseph Cavitolo said the 27-year-old man may have committed suicide.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death, he said.

11 injured in Hollis fire

HOLLIS – Nine firefighters and two civilians suffered minor injuries during a fire in Jamaica early Monday morning, the Fire Department said.

The two-alarm fire at 179-28 Hillside Ave. consumed the second floor apartment of a two-story building from about 11 p.m. Sunday until after 1 a.m. Monday morning, Firefighter Vito Berretta said.

It took 121 firefighters to control the blaze, Berretta said.

Sing-Sing officer arrested in LIC prostitution bust

QUEENS PLAZA – A corrections officer at Sing-Sing was arrested Tuesday night for allegedly soliciting a prostitute, police said.

Sergio Cruz, 29, of 202 Hale Ave. in Brooklyn was arrested near the corner of 23rd Avenue and 44th Road shortly before midnight Tuesday, said Officer Louis Cruz, a police spokesman, who is not related to the accused.

Sergio Cruz was charged with patronizing a prostitute, Officer Cruz said.

The accused is a New York State Corrections officer assigned to Sing-Sing state prison, Cruz said. He was arrested as a result of Operation Losing Proposition, a Police Department initiative in which undercover police officers pose as prostitutes.

Three men arrested after livery cab robbery

ASTORIA – Three men were arrested after they allegedly tried to rob a livery cab driver in Astoria Saturday morning, police said.

The 34-year-old driver picked up the three suspects at Steinway Street and 30th Avenue, Officer Gary Cillo said, and took them to 36th Avenue and 28th Street.

Once there, Cillo said, one of the suspects allegedly displayed a knife and ordered the driver to give them all of his money. The suspects fled with $150 in cash and a cell phone, he said, but were caught by police a short distance away.

Edgar Rosaras, 18, of 12-213 First Ave., Miguel Flores, 18, of 30-37 41st St., and Ismael Flores, 18, of 31-02 30th Ave., were charged with robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and stolen property, he said.

Youths arrested in Long Island City robberies

LONG ISLAND CITY – Two boys were arrested for a string of robberies in January in the 108th and 114th precincts, Officer Joseph Cavitolo said.

A 13-year-old suspect was arrested Feb. 4 and a 12-year-old suspect was arrested Feb. 26 in connection with three robberies in the 108th Precinct and one in the 114th Precinct, Cavitolo said.

The suspects allegedly robbed other juveniles of cash and jewelry on four separate occasions in January, he said.

Police investigate Ozone Park spraypainting

OZONE PARK -Police are investigating a possible bias incident in which an Hispanic woman's car was discovered to have been spray-painted with racial statements Tuesday morning around 9:45, Police Officer Theresa Farello said.

Farello said the car was parked outside 101-40 Lefferts Blvd. and the incident remained under investigation.

Rego Park shoe repairman arrested for fake CD sales

REGO PARK – A Brooklyn man was arrested last week for allegedly selling counterfeit CDs from a shoe repair shop at the 63rd Drive subway station underneath Queens Boulevard, authorities said.

The 47-year-old man, Uriel Aminov, of 12-01 Penn Ave. in Brooklyn, displayed more than 1,000 counterfeit CDs by artists including Marc Anthony, Cher, and Phil Collins beside bottles of shoe polish, said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

Aminov was charged with trademark counterfeiting, criminal possession of forgery devices and failure to disclose the origin of a recording, the DA said. He faces up to three years in prison if convicted of the charges.

Brown said there was a color copier and shrink wrap machine in the defendant's underground store hidden behind a partition, where Aminov allegedly photocopied real CD covers and wrapped them in CD cases himself.

Teen slashed in Woodhaven

WOODHAVEN – A 17-year-old male was slashed after a dispute Monday afternoon in Woodhaven, police said.

The teen was slashed in the face after a dispute with an unidentified suspect at 103-25 Rockaway Blvd., Officer Joseph Cavitolo said.

The suspect fled and the victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition, he said.
