The birds ready to fly out for Spring are chirping that it can’t be spring because they can still see snow on the horizon.
I just can’t grow old without invitations to two to four events every day, but each is so wonderful and heartwarming.
Boy Scouts of America, Troop 20 at First Reformed Church, College Point, held their “Eagle Court of Honor” ceremony.” Michael William MacKay received and wore for the first time, the Eagle Scout Medal. Opening ceremony and welcome was given by Committee Chairman Robert D. Maeurer, Sr. Invocation was given by Reverend Carl Rosenblum. The rededication and law of the Eagle was given by Eagle Scout, Troop 18 Scoutmaster and District Dean of Merit Badges Ed Petersen. The presentation of Eagle Medal was made by Eagle Mother Ann Mackay, Eagle Badge and Pin by Eagle Father John Mackay and Mother's and Father's Pins presented by Eagle Scout Michael William Mackay. Eagle community service project was presented by Scoutmaster Marcos Martinez. Senator Frank Padavan made a presentation, as did College Point Security Patrol Director Rocco Cardali. Robert Hom was MC and gave the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Congratulations to Eagle Scout Michael William MacKay and his family.

The College Point Community Ambulance Corps, in conjunction with New York Hospital Queens, held their annual blood drive at their Corps. headquarters, The College Point Community Ambulance Corps wishes to thank all those who donated.

Holy Trinity Parish was selected by the Paulist National Catholic Evangelization Association as one of the first three parishes across the U.S. to embark on a parish planning process. This process involves all members of the faith community in creating a shared vision for the parish. Each and everyone of the parish is vital in the planning process which involves the following phases: organizing, listening, discernment and planning. The Listening Day took place on March 3rd. The Parish Planning Design Team worked hard on the program. After Fr. Latona, Jim Moyer continued and Senator Padavan spoke on community trends.
Adelphi University’s Undergraduate Social Work Council presented a live music concert to benefit “Friends Of Karen” providing financial, emotional and advocacy support for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families since 1978. It featured live music including The Band Outlet, The Joe Rock Band, Live DJ and Buffet Dinner, silent auction, raffle prizes, 50/50 raffle. Co-Chairs, Student Social Work Undergraduate Council: Denise A. Wind and Hal S. Eisenberg. In 1978, Karen MacInnes, a 16 year old girl with Lafora's disease, a progressive, fatal neurological illness, wanted to go home for the holidays. The medical costs were too great. A friend of the family, Sheila Peterson, raised the money to send her home. Karen eventually died in 1978. One of the organization's coordinators Denise Wind said their vision became a reality. At Adelphi, support has come from administrators throughout the campus, some fraternities and sororities, former students, as well as politicians. I was overjoyed to see the students, gathered together and all arduously working in such a worthy cause. A green ribbon has come to symbolize hope for the children and their families. Along with being Co-Chair Hal Eisenberg., played the drums with the Outlet band. One of the raffle prizes, the DVD Player, received the loudest cheer from the winner. Judy Eisenberg, Hal’s mother, was very proud of her son and his loving efforts for the charity, as well as his wife, Regina, and her wonderful artistic singing.

College Point Road Runners: The 23rd Annual Queens Half-Marathon and the Skaggs-Walsh 5K Run will be held Saturday, April 14. Race will start 121st Street on Poppenhusen Avenue (MacNeil Park) at 8 a.m. College Point Boulevard will be closed from 8 a.m. until 8:15 a.m. To volunteer call Hector Moreno 424-2478.

SABINA SAYS: It was wonderful attending the Golden Anniversary celebration for Helen and Fred Mazzarello given by their three daughters, Helen, Rita and Mary. I can’t believe that Fred took an afternoon off but he did, and his dancing and participating really was the only gift that Helen wanted. Also one of the special guests, recuperating nicely, was MaryAnn Fanelli. Fr. Arthur Minichello, St. Fidelis, dropped by for the renewal of the vows. Everyone had a good time.
