Police Blotter: Police stop drag race on Francis Lewis Blvd.

BAYSIDE — Officers from the 111th Precinct confiscated two cars in an early Friday morning drag race on Francis Lewis Boulevard, police said.

Drivers of the cars — a Ford Mustang and an Eagle Talon — were drag-racing along the boulevard, said Officer Anthony Lombardi. He said officers in an unmarked car witnessed the two cars line up to race, and they pulled them over just after the race started. Each driver was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment.

Lombardi said the 107th, 109th and 111th precincts are cracking down on drag-racing along Francis Lewis Boulevard.

Woman, 49, found dead in water near Fort Totten

BAYSIDE — A woman was found dead in the water near Fort Totten in Bayside Thursday, police said.

The body of Sekevada Ismala, 49, was found in the East River under the Whitestone Bridge and retrieved by harbor patrol, said Officer Gary Cillo, a spokesman for the Police Department.

The medical examiner was to determine the cause of death.

Woman, 41, steals $1,000 from Douglaston 84-year-old

DOUGLASTON — A 41-year-old woman who was let into the 69th Avenue home of an elderly woman Thursday afternoon stole $1,000 and then fled, police said.

The theft happened around noon Thursday, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman. The victim, 84, answered a knock at her door and let in the woman whom she knew, police said.

Young woman raped in Laurelton alley

LAURELTON — A 18-year-old woman was raped at knifepoint by a 19-year-old man whom she knew on Sunday at about 9 p.m., police said.

The man forced the woman into his car and took her to an alley near 225th Street and Merrick Boulevard where he raped her, said Jerry Varson, a Police Department spokesman.

Police were investigating.

30-year-old kills self in Springfield Gdns. motel

SPRINGFIELD GARDENS — An unidentified 30-year-old man committed suicide in the Airport Motel at 159-99 Rockaway Blvd. by firing a gun at his head, police said.

Police were investigating the incident, said Office Louis Cruz, a Police Department spokesman.

Man stabbed in side at Hollis street corner

HOLLIS — A 24-year-old man was stabbed in the side as he stood on the corner of 191st Street and Jamaica Avenue at about 4 a.m. Sunday, police said.

He was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in Jamaica where he was treated and released.

Police were investigating.

R train derails, delaying Queens straphangers for hours

LOWER MANHATTAN — Service along the N and R trains was halted for several hours from late Tuesday morning after an R Train derailed in Lower Manhattan, causing the subway tunnel to fill with smoke, police said.

The inbound train derailed about 800 feet before the City Hall stop, said Sgt. Richard Kemmler. He said a 38-old-man suffered from shortness of breath and was taken to New York Downtown Hospital.

The derailment caused the N and R trains to be shut down, leaving many Queens riders stranded.

Kemmler said the passengers were taken from the train through the subway tunnel to the City Hall and Vestry stops where they were able to exit. A southbound R train was stuck in the tunnel due to the derailment, and those passengers also had to be led to the station exits.

The trains were backed up and running at 4:57 p.m. but were not running at normal service until 6:32 p.m. during the rush-hour crunch due to repairs and investigative work.

20-year-old man shot in fight at Sunnyside club

SUNNYSIDE — A 20-year-old man was shot in the foot at a nightclub early Friday morning during a fight with several other men, police said.

The shooting happened around 3:40 a.m. at the Palm Nightclub, 40-15 Queens Blvd., said Detective Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.

The victim, who was not identified, was shot once in the foot during the fight, Chew said.

He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition Friday, police said.

Officers on call crash into wall in Glendale

GLENDALE — Officers responding to a call late last Thursday lost control of the patrol car and crashed into a wall, police said. One of the officers suffered head injuries and was taken to Jamaica Hospital.

The accident happened shortly before midnight at Cypress Hills Avenue and the Jackie Robinson Parkway, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.

Woman, 34, abducted, raped in Long Island City

LONG ISLAND CITY — A 34-year-old woman was abducted while walking on 40th Avenue at about 5 a.m. last Wednesday, taken to a nearby 21st Avenue location and raped, police said.

Mohammed Alkhani, 34, of 31-15 21st Avenue, was arrested and charged with the crime, said Carmen Melendez, a police spokeswoman.

Teen charged with firing rifle in his Corona home

CORONA — An 18-year-old fired a round from his new rifle in his home Monday at about 3:30 p.m., police said.

Rafael Deluna was sitting at his home at 57-25 Waldron St. with his mother, brother and sister when he took out his new rifle, said Jerry Varson, a Police Department spokesman.

He said the mother and two children ran from the house and called police.

The police arrested Deluna and charged him with criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.

Worker seriously jolted at Rego Park lamp post

REGO PARK — An electrical worker was severely shocked while working on a city lamp post last Wednesday morning, police said.

The worker, an employee of the Welsbach Electric Corporation, was in a cherry-picker bucket when he was jolted.

He was listed in extremely critical condition at Elmhurst Hospital, said Carmen Melendez, a police spokeswoman.

Elmhurst student charged in stun-gun attack at school

ELMHURST — A 13-year-old student injured six of his friends with a stun gun after testing it on himself at his Elmhurst school April 4, police said.

The students, three of whom had minor injuries, were treated and released from area hospitals.

They told police the student with the stun gun was “just fooling around,” said Detective Robert Samuel, a spokesman for the Police Department.

The student with the stun gun, who does not have a prior record of disciplinary problems at school, was charged with attempted assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment, Samuel said.

26-year-old woman carjacked in Corona on Northern Blvd.

CORONA — A 26-year-old woman was carjacked at 110th Street and Northern Boulevard Friday night by two unidentified men, police said.

The woman was driving her 1988 Toyota when she was cut off by a dark-colored Honda about 10:20 p.m., said Det. Nancy Yule, a Police Department spokeswoman.

The men pulled out a gun, ordered her out of her car and then fled in the car, Yule said.

Police were investigating.
