Bayside Little League: Hatton’s Funeral Home wins three straight

Texas Division

Hatton’s Funeral Home 14, Bayside Milk Farm 8. Robert Goger came through with clutch pitching and John Dudolsky supplied timely hitting for Hatton in their win. Nicole Carroll had a triple and three RBIs and Vinny Diasparra had an RBI to rally Bayside Milk Farm with a seven-run sixth inning.

Hatton’s Funeral Home 8, Bourbon Street 6. Key pitching from Jared Young and Matthew Ng’s game-winning run helped Hatton Funeral Home slip past Bourbon Street. Bourbon Street had RBI hits from James Hilsdorf and Christopher Rodriguez to give their team a 6-5 lead. Hatton scored three runs in the sixth inning to capture the come-from-behind victory.

Hatton’s Funeral Home 7, Clearview Paint 1. Chris Lundgren threw a perfect three innings on the mound and Dante Randazzo hit a home run to pace Hatton’s Funeral Home. Patrick Jordan and Michael Bilik had great games defensively for Clearview Paint in the loss.

Fader Law 12, Burton & Doyle 2. For Fader, Adam Virzi did a solid job and caught the full six innings in his first game at catcher. Michael Dinoto was 4-for-4 and Eric Marinconz was 3-for-4, each had two RBIs and scored three runs. For Burton, Terrence Manfredonia pitched three strong innings, allowing one hit and striking out nine, while Drew Mecham was tough in relief of the injured Ryan Paccione, despite the hot bats of Fader Law.

Clearview Paint 13, Underweiser Law 8. Patrick Jordan picked up the win, pitching three solid innings. Kenny Marzocco and Kyra Aloizos were the hitting stars. Aloizos’ two-run homer in the first ignited the offense and Marzocco’s two RBIs in the third extended the lead for Clearview. Dean Papakomstantis pitched three gutsy innings for Underweiser Law and added a home run. Daniel Randell added a lot of offense, including a two-run double. Mark Anthony Scolaro had a thundering three-run triple to bring Underweiser within striking distance.

K of C, Joyce Kilmer 16, Bayside Milk Farm 3. Game ball honors went to John Benussi for pitching a perfect three innings, walking none and striking out nine batters while throwing just 39 pitches to lead K of C, Joyce Kilmer. Home runs by Brian Wren, Armond Tognan and a grand slam by Anthony Polito led the offensive attack for K of C.

Bayside Milk Farm 11, Underweiser Law 4. Nicholas DelGaudio was the winning pitcher and William Dobie had a two-run double in Bayside Milk Farm’s win. David Underweiser led his team by pitching three strong innings and made two great plays defensively in the loss.

Biordi Construction 9, Burton & Doyle 8. Sam Gussak went 4-for-4, scored three runs and pitched three strong innings to hold off a late charge from Burton & Doyle. Leo Gussak also had a hand in the win, pitching two fine innings and scoring two runs for Biordi. Biordi’s Nicky Burns got his first game ball of the season for his great performance behind the plate. Burton and Doyle had a home run each from Terrance Manfredonia and Barry Porzungulo, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth to mount a valiant comeback.

Headlines 21, Fader Law 4. Despite the lopsided score there were some solid performances for Fader Law. Anthony Hotzoglou had his first career hit and saw a lot of action at second base. Marco Bebawy and Giacomo Grasso both helped the team by splitting the catching duties and had their first taste of pitching in a big game and both did well.

Texas Farm Division

Padavan’s Paragons were again a model of excellence in there performance on the field and at the plate. The hitting was led by Brenden Cosgrove and Nicholas Athonasatus, while a gold-glove performance was turned in by Anthony Palermo. William Holden and Matthew Kane struck like lightening with their fine base running.

Applebees vs. R. Klein, CPA. Game ball honors for R. Klein, CPA were shared by Sean McGloin, for stroking two extra base hits, and Robert Klein, for some terrific fielding plays in the second inning. Billy Powell also chipped in at the plate with a triple and three RBIs.

On Sunday, Applebees of Bayside pounded the ball throughout the game led by three hits from Alessandro Pacheco, including two base-clearing triples. Michael Guadalupe belted out three solid hits in his four at bats. Brandon Putre led all hitters with four hits, including a three-bagger.

PeeWee Division

Unique Finishes vs. Mittman’s Medics. Frederick Jambois of Unique Finshes made several excellent plays in the field and had two key hits. Michael Saltzman, in his first Little League game, had two hits and played well in the field.

Depot Furniture vs. Mittman’s Medics. Adam Strumpf yielded the big lumber for Mittman’s Medics, while teammate Zachary Roseblum flashed some fancy leather in the field. The hitting star for Depot Furniture was Nicholas Danziger, with two big hits, while teammate Seen Rafferty was awesome in the field.

A&A Plumbing vs. A.S.K. Contracting. Andrew Vecchio led A&A Plumbing with his timely hitting, while Jessica Dullahan shown brightly with her sparkling defense A.S.K. Contracting was led by P.J. Riffkind, whose smile lit up a whole field when he was awarded the game ball for his fine all-around play. Nicholas Hurley covered so much ground, it seemed like he had the field covered from first base to the left field line.

Mario’s Vinotheque vs. Mardene Construction. Sponsor Joe Marden was impressed with the work ethic of his team as he watched this PeeWee slugfest. Marky Marden ripped the laces off the ball with a bullet to left field and teammate Ricky Renzi showed athletic agility running the bases after getting two big hits . Mario’s Vinotheque was led by the big bat of Mark Pagano, who slugged a home run to left field and the super shortstop play of Logan May .

Minor Division

Mardene Construction 6, Valle Tile 2. Strong defense and timely hitting were the keys in Mardene’s win. Sam Allen and Joe Scade made great plays in the field, while Joe Stormont and Rob Costa had big hits for Mardene. Sean McEnerney and Tim Koziel had great games for Valle Tile.

Mardene 5. James Engravers 4. Steve Dellafiora had a bases-clearing double and Joe Mardene hit a home run in the bottom of the fifth for the winning run for Mardene. Tom Cheesman pitched a perfect three innings for Mardene, while Cal Sternick hit a triple and struck out nine for James Engraves.

Party City 2, James Engravers 1. The first game of the season for each team turned out to be an extra-inning thriller. Party City’s Jorge Ynoa struck out 14, allowing only one hit, while Jose Nunez provided the hitting for Party City with two hits and the winning RBI. Cal Sternck’s pitching was equally impressive for James Engravers, striking out 13.

James Engravers 10, Iannece 2001 8. Pitcher Marco Tamares hit a grand slam in fourth. inning and catcher Joseph De Santis made three great plays in top of sixth inning to finish game. Michael McManus was solid in relief to help clinch win for James Engravers. For Iannece 2001, the battery of pitcher Michael Andreou and catcher Aash Sharma kept scoring to a minimum with their defensive work during the game.

Valle Tile and Marble 15, Donovan’s 1. For Valle Tile, Bryan Wasserman had three hits and James O’Brien had two, plus some nice fielding plays. For Donovan’s, Michael Cadigan and Anthony Merkle each had a couple of hits.

Major Homes 2, Centa Plumbing 1. For Centa Plumbing, Brian Espinal looked great at the plate. Robert Klein pitched three fine innings for Major Homes, along with Mike Beringer going 1-for-2 and making the game-saving catch in right field.

James Engravers 6, VI Pizza 2. Carlo Cataldo walked twice with two stolen bases and played strong defense at shortstop for the winners, while relief pitcher Michael McManus struck out four batters in two innings and went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Christopher Garthright’s double led off the fifth inning. For VI Pizza, starter Zack Zizelis pitched four strong innings.

Party City 6, Major Homes 5. In a thriller, Michael Galati lead Party City to the win with a home run and great defensive play behind the plate. Robert Romano had a clutch hit in the late innings to give P.C. the come-from-behind win. Daniel Valenza had a impressive game for Major Homes with his hitting and strong defensive play.

Party City 16, Donavan’s 7. Paul Jordan and Sal Musso provided the hitting power, as Party City rolled on to the win. Jordan also had four stolen bases. Joe Deleon pitched three scoreless innings to secure the win for P.C. Kara Gioia’s pitching and base running, along with Joe Randazzo's fielding, were the highlights for Donavan’s.

VI Pizza 8, Donavan’s 3. V I Pizza was led by Nicky Coppelli and Sean Escobedo, with each contributed timely hitting and excellent pitching. Ryan Smith had two hits for Donavan’s.

VI Pizza 26, Centa Plumbing 2. Robert Lana and Thomas Lewandowski led V I Pizza with bigs hits and Mike Haliadakis was great in the field for Centa Plumbing.

Starlight Caterers 13, Bell Bay Florist 8. Joe Loner pitched a great game and Dylan Pleva had three hits for Starlight. Mike Georgeou and Anthony Pretakiewiez each had two hits for Bell Bay Florist.

Iannece 2001 13, Printing X-Press 6. Vincent Iannece pitched a great game and Jeremy Schvster did a great job at catcher for Iannece 2001. Jake Hartin had three RBIs and Mike Valente had two RBIs for Printing X-Press.

Major Division

C.J. Wolfhounds 2, Nicholson 1. Alex Kalinkos went all six innings, striking out 14. It took crafty base running from Chris Paruch and Rich Marchisello to score the only two runs for the Wolfhounds. Peter Regan’s solo HR in the fifth inning broke up the no-hitter and gave Nicholson’s new hope. Pitcher Young June Lee held C.Js down for four innings, striking out five.

C.J. Wolfhounds 12, Applebees 6. Rory Pleva (2-for-4, two RBIs) and Alex Kalinkos (4-for-4, three RBIs) led the offense for the Hounds. Brian Hawkins continued his clutch hitting, going 2-for-3 with a two-run double for Applebees. Centerfielder James Lizzel showed his defensive skills, making a sliding catch and doubling up the runner tagging at third with an outstanding throw to home plate.

C.J. Wolfhounds 4, Lloyd’s Funeral Home 1. Base hits by Rich Marschicello, Rory Pleva and Anthony Zupnick capped a three-run forth inning, as C.J.s edged out Lloyd’s. Pitchers Alex Kalinkos and Sun Ho Kim were superb, each striking out 10 in six innings.

Biordi Construction 10, Stabile and Stabile CPA’s 1. Biordi Construction defeated Stabile and Stabile behind the one-hit pitching of Spiros Cominos. Cominos, who struck out 12, also doubled with the bases loaded to help his own cause. George Rowen and Roger Pfeffer each reached base safely in all three at-bats and Richard Ricciardi and Joey Catalanotto reached base also to spark the offense. For Stabile and Stabile, starting pitcher, Matt Becce threw three strong innings to keep the game close early on. Peter Scianna hit the ball well for Stabile, singling in the fifth inning to break-up a no-hitter. Jimmy Bernard also hit the ball well for Stabile. It was Biordi's first victory.

Junior Division

Peter Pan Games 11, Sgt. Wickers 0. Michael Enright pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout and also contributed a three-run home run. Joey O’Connor led the offense with two doubles and a booming triple and totaled five RBIs. Paul Savino had two stolen bases and turned an unassisted, game-ending double play. For Wickers, Billy Massaro had several fine defensive plays and Alex Zeplovitch had a solid game behind the plate.

Charlie’s Market 13, Starlight Paint 9. Charlie’s was led by the fine pitching of David Pelton and strong hitting of Scott Roth (four hits). Starlight was led by Patrick Cazilas, who had two hits and was excellent in the field.

Charlie’s Market 17, Bayside Collison 15. This exciting game ended on a double play initiated by Eli Hampton that saved the day for Charlie's Market. Michael Garaufis did double duty by catching and pitching and hit a triple to boot. John Tatti made a spectacular catch in center field. Buena Sanchez had three hits for Bayside Collision.
