Continental Shipping Cardinals 5, Cascarino’s Mets 2. Pitchers Sebastian Grazziani and Chris Carton combined for 11 strikeouts, with Grazziani driving in a run in the fifth for the winners. Shortstop Justin Black, first basemen Tommy Wojciechowski and catcher Robert Hughes provided stellar defense in the field. John Massa recorded the final out or the game. The “Iron Man ” award goes to Anthony Rizzo, who took two for the team, proving that batting helmets really do make a difference. Grazziani received the game ball for his outstanding performance.

Justin Black, Philip Rathaus, Jason Brendler, Chris Carton, John Massa, Tommy Wojciechowski, Robert Hughes, Anthony Rizzo and Sebastian Grazziani combined for a total of 18 hits, while pitchers John Massa, Chris Carton and Sebastian Grazziani combined for 11 strikeouts. Brendler hit a long triple and Grazziani hit a grand slam home run.

Cascarino’s Mets 16, Fitness Consultants Blue Jays 12. The Mets, trailing by two runs in the last inning, rallied to win the game, 16-12. The Mets pounded out 10 hits, including three hits and three RBIs from Kenny Pinto. Matt DiGirolomo had two hits and three runs scored, Steve Cervino had one hit and two RBIs, Rob Liquori had one hit and one RBI and Michael Pisciotta had one hit and one RBI. Justin Goodman had one hit, two runs scored and played outstanding in the field.

Eden Florist Yankees 9, Pier 25A Marlins 0. Jared Katz struck out 11 batters in four innings and hit a home run, as the Eden Florist Yankees beat the Pier 25A Marlins.. William Simonetti broke the game open in the fourth inning with a two-RBI double. Michael Katz drove in the next run with a triple to cap off a three-run fourth. Timely hitting by Manoli Sgouros, Greg Polkowski, Robbie Fielder, Matt Maran and Matt Mahler accounted for the rest of the offense. Danny Weisman, Jeffrey Goldberg, Andrew Gross and Jimmy Haralampoudos contributed with runs scored and defense.

Texas League

Cafe on the Green A’s top Mattone Realty’s Blue Jays. The A’s season started with a lead-off hit by Ethan Ampel. The team’s offense was dominated with multiple hits by Tyler Portolatin, Jesse Bagell, Daniel Pazanin, Angelo Roveto, Mike Zirpoli and Julie Wagner. The defense was anchored by Daniel Onorato, Maz Goodrich and Mike Zirpoli at first base. The Blue Jays made a strong push in the final inning with their offense, led by Brandon Rosenblum and Mark Greenberg. Defensive standouts were Matthew Mattone, Matthew Schwartz and Michael Leonard.

Queens Courier Cardinals defeat Clearview Paint Devil Rays. The Cardinals explosive offense was led by Evan Katz, Brandon Scheiner, Tyler Ruiz and Tony and Jorge Zorilla, who all shared in a equally strongly defensive game. The Devil Rays were led offensively by Julien Machuca, David Bilyk, Joe Coen and Charlie Ruffanillo. Playing a strong defensive were Justin Lopez and Jordan Mittenthal.

Pony League

Estates Animal Hospital Yankees 12, Reif Park Ranger 2. The Yankees rolled behind the arms of Matt Larotunda and Tony Abruzzo. Brian O’Connell, Chris Homenick, Joseph Brent and Joe Mariani had big hits. For the Rangers, Irving De la Concha pitched well and had two RBIs. Justin Leisenheimers made some great defensive plays.

OLBS Dodgers 12, Exxon at Bayside Devil Rays 7. The Dodgers beat the Devil Rays behind some strong pitching by Taresh Barta and the hots bats of Tommy Hill, Chris Califano and Tony Dilluvio. The Devil Rays got solid pitching from Adam Greenfield, while John Mirabella hit a home run. Ricky Honya and Peter Kim also had big hits.
