Quantum Feet to hold second benefit 5K race

The second annual Quantum Feet Benefit 5K Run/Walk and Children’s Fun Run is set For Sunday June 10, in Fresh Meadows starting 9 a.m.

The event, run in cooperation with the College Point Road Runners Track Club, will benefit the Steppingstone Day School of Flushing.

The race starts at 189th St., and Union Turnpike and goes through the tree-lined residential streets of Fresh Meadows and on the new Cunningham Park Green Belt trail and finishes near the start. The 3.1 mile course takes the runners about two miles into the park. This special school if for young children with disabilities and their families. In Steppingstones nurturing child centered environment children are encouraged to believe in themselves and are motivated to reach their full potential.

Steppingstones has earned a reputation for pioneering progressive approaches in the education of babies and preschoolers with special needs. Marked by best practices in early childhood education, a state of the art technology program, a parent support system and continuing education for the staff, Steppingstones continues to expand its menu of programs so that each child’s unique needs can be met.

“The school integrates regular children with special education children,” said race director Dominic Ortiz. Ortiz expects a large turnout from the athletes who are staying in shape for the cross country season starts in early September.
