Midville Dodgers to assemble May 18, 20

By The TimesLedger

The Midville Dodgers College team, ages 18-23, announced plans for their first outdoor workouts in preparation for the upcoming 2001 season. On Friday, May 18th, 5:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 20th, 2:00 p.m., the Dodgers have scheduled workouts at Juniper Valley Park, field #1 (Juniper Boulevard South at 76th Street, Middle Village).

“Most players are still away in college and these are the earliest dates we could assemble the team,” said Burt Beagle, Manager. But Beagle, who has sent over a dozen players to the Major League in his coaching career is not worried. He and coach Charlie Spinner have been attending college games eyeing metropolitan area talent. The team opens the 2001 season on the Memorial Day Weekend.

Players wishing to register for the Dodgers College Team can do so by phone by calling the Midville Dodgers hotline at (718) 651-5865 and leave their name, age, address and phone number and high school or college team.

A reminder to all players and parents — please call the Midville Dodgers hotline for weather and practice updates before traveling to workouts.

The Dodgers Junior and Senior teams held outdoor workouts this past weekend and both are close to setting opening day lineups. Dodgers General Manager, Greg Bianchini, has made some final selections and just a few moves have to be made.

The Midville Dodgers Senior squad is basically set. One or two roster moves may come but the Seniors are expected to field one of the best Midville squads in history.
