RGMVM L.L.: Instructional Post 104 Giants battle Cardinals

By The TimesLedger

It was a cold damp day, as the Giants took on the Cardinals in a Sunday afternoon game. The teams played this game as a make-up from a previous rain out. The game was held on the big field in prime time. On the defensive side, the orange and black were at it again, playing stellar team defense as they dove and scampered for every ground ball. Again anchoring first base was Timmy Frenzel (two hits). On the mound leading they way with his diving acrobatics was Chris Piteo (two hits). Piteo cut off two runners at the plate and, on one play, dove for the ball, snagged it ,then got up to beat the runner coming to the plate from third base. Piteo also assisted on numerous other plays to help kill potential rallies.

On the other side of the mound was Joey Rubino (two hits). Rubino also assisted on numerous plays in the field. Also making a great play at second base was David Fitzgerald. Stevie Seigal continued his hitting ways going 1-for-3. Rounding out the rest of the tough Giant lineup was Samantha DiGiovanni (one hit), David Fitzgerald (one hit), Patrick Ennd (one hit), Ryan DeBiase (one hit), Andrew Rebello (one hit), Johnny Postel (one hit), Bryan Torres (one hit) and Brett Bauser (two hits).

Playing in this weeks Moser Memorial Day Tournament will be Timmy Frenzel and Chris Piteo. The Giants have teamed up with Limbacher of the Rookie Division. Good luck Guys. The Giants next regularly scheduled game will be Thursday May 31, at 6 p.m.

The Moser Memorial Day Tournament

RGMVM Little League held their annual Edward L. Moser Memorial Day Tournament at Seither Stadium. The weekend started out damp and dreary, but ended on a bright sunny Memorial Day Monday. In between there was some great baseball played. Teams from Port Washington Little League, Floral Park Little League, Rich Haven Little League as well as RGMVM players participated in this two-day tournament. Games were played in the Instructional/Rookie Division (four teams), the Minor Division (six teams) and the Major Division (six teams). The RGMVM Little League teams won in all three divisions.

The MVP winners were Steve Pelligrino in the Minor Division and Dennis Nover in the Major Division. The Cecil Weissman Trophy was awarded to Chris Piteo of the Instructional Giants. Piteo played on a combined Instructional/Rookie Team of the Limbacher, Giants, and A’s. Piteo played second base in the first game and made some diving stops and turned in a couple of defense gems. In the second game on Monday, Piteo pitched three innings with seven strikeouts, two walks, two hits and 0 earned runs. He was 1-for-1 with two walks at the plate and also drove in the winning runs with a shot down the left-field line. Piteo finished the game playing second base and again dove around the infield making two outstanding plays.

Special thanks goes out to the Staff at RGMVM, including Al Erdamnn, Cora Modica, Diana Kunkel, all the umpires, the Ladies Auxiliary, the managers and coaches and the Moser family for helping make this into a great time for all.

We would also like to thank our friends at Floral Park Little League, Port Washington Little League and Rich Heaven Little League for participating and coming out to support this tournament.

The real winners this weekend were the kids who came out and gave up their weekend to raise money for the Tomorrow’s Children Fund. The Manager/Coaches vs. the Umpires softball game ended in tie. The Moser family would like to thank all who participated and helped out in any way to help make this tournament the great success that it is.
