Bayside Kevin Reilly cracks top 10 at Illinois tournament

By The TimesLedger

Six-year-old Kevin Reilly, who attends kindergarten at PS 203 in Bayside, recently returned from The Pepsi Little Peoples Golf Championship, in Quincey, Ill., where he finished the tournament in the top 10 in a tough field of 60 6- and 7-year-old players.

Reilly played a good first round and shot a 23 in five holes and followed that up with a second round score of 20 for a total of 4,3 which put him in ninth place overall. Reilly enjoyed the competition and the tournament and will return to compete in 2002.

Reilly’s next tournament will be the U.S. Kids World Golf Championship. He will play a qualifying round upstate at the Saratoga National Golf Course on July 10 and, if he qualifies first in his age group, he will again travel to Jekyll Island, Ga. and play on the New York All-Star Team.

Last year, Reilly finished 30th at the championship. There will be competitors from the U.S. and all over the world playing in this tournament. The U.S. Kids World Golf Championship will be televised on Fox Sports Network.
