Police Blotter: LIC dentist gets six years in sexual assault of patient

LONG ISLAND CITY — A Long Island City dentist was sentenced to six years in prison for sexually assaulting a female patient while he was treating her, the Queens district attorney said.

Jairo Rendon, 37, of 41-35 53rd St. in Woodside, was found guilty of four counts of sexual abuse in the first degree after a jury trial last month, DA Richard A. Brown said.

Rendon molested his 34-year-old patient on April 14, 1999, opening her blouse and sexually abusing her while she was under the influence of nitrous oxide gas, Brown said.

“The crime was a terrible betrayal of trust and an extremely traumatic experience for the victim,” Brown said.

30-year-old woman raped on Parsons Boulevard

HILLCREST — A 30-year-old woman was raped by an unidentified man in his 20s on the corner of Parsons Boulevard and 79th Avenue on Sunday at about 4:30 a.m.

The man fled the scene and the victim was taken to Queens Hospital Medical Center for evaluation, said Officer Chris Cottingham, a Police Department spokesman.

Police were investigating.

Note-passing robber of bank in Bellerose remains at large

BELLEROSE — Police were still looking for a 30-year-old man who robbed the North Fork Bank at 252-53 Union Turnpike on June 15 at about 11 a.m.

The man entered the bank and passed a note to the teller demanding money and displayed sticks that could have been flares or dynamite taped together, police said. After the teller handed over an undisclosed amount of money, the robber fled.

65-year-old Woodside man charged with rape of teen

WOODSIDE — Police arrested Caesar Vuitro, 65, of 65-38 41st. Ave. for allegedly raping a 16-year-old mentally retarded girl, police said.

Vuitro apparently lured the girl into his home at about 9:30 a.m. last Thursday and raped her, said Officer Chris Cottingham, a Police Department spokesman.

Man, 20, shot in leg by robber in S. Jamaica

SOUTH JAMAICA — A 20-year-old man was shot in the leg by an unidentified 20-year-old man who stole the victim’s neck chain, police said.

The victim was shot at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday at 120th Avenue and 156th Street. He was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in stable condition, said Officer Chris Cottingham, a Police Department spokesman.

Police were investigating.

Teen shot in chest in Long Island City

LONG ISLAND CITY — A 17-year-old was shot in the chest by an unidentified man who fled on a bicycle, police said.

Alex Sitaris was shot at about 3:50 a.m. Saturday at 41-09 12th St. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan where he was in stable condition, said Officer Chris Cottingham, a Police Department spokesman.

Police were investigating.

Two gunmen rob Sunnyside bookstore

SUNNYSIDE — Two men entered a bookstore on Thomson Avenue last week and announced a robbery, tying up the employees and fleeing with more than $20,000 in cash, police said.

The robbery happened around 9 p.m. June 27 at the LaGuardia College Bookstore at 31-10 Thomson Ave., said Cadet John Buthorn, a police spokesman. Two men, armed with guns, entered the bookstore and tied up the employees, the police said, and took $23,000 in cash.

The employees were not injured.

Jackson Heights driver ticketed after hitting, killing pedestrian

MANHATTAN — Alejandro Zuluago, 25, of Jackson Heights was issued a summons for speeding after the car he was driving fatally hit Carole Klein, 68, of 39 East 10th St., police said.

Zuluago struck Klein with his 1999 Cougar at the intersection of 75th Street and Park Avenue on Monday at about 10:35 a.m, police said.

She was taken to New York Hospital where she was declared dead, said the NYPD.

Justice employee charged with punching another woman

Elmhurst — A city employee was arrested in the 110th Precinct last week after she allegedly punched another woman in the mouth during an argument, the police said.

Irma Stephens, 51, and employee of the city Juvenile Justice Department, was arrested around 4 p.m. June 27 and charged with third-degree assault, the police said.

Police did not release the location of the argument.

Man robbed of $17,000 in Ridgewood at mid-day

RIDGEWOOD — Two men in their late 20s robbed a man in front of 70-01 Forest Ave. at about 12:45 p.m. Monday, police said.

The robbers stole about $17,000 and fled, police said.

Police were investigating.

38-year-old man found dead in Rockaways apartment

THE ROCKAWAYS — John Mulholland, 38, was found dead in Apartment 7 at 157 Beach 122nd St. at about 1 a.m. Sunday, police said.

There were no signs of trauma and the medical examiner was to determine the cause of death.
