Hundreds of kids join police at Harmony Picnic

More than 500 children joined officers from the eight Patrol Borough South precincts for the annual Harmony Picnic in South Jamaica’s Baisley Park Tuesday.

Some kids cooled off from the summer heat in a park sprinkler while others got their faces painted or played games.

A gyroscope twirled children through the air, a pirate’s ship rocked them and an obstacle course challenged them. Older youths played basketball and danced the cha-cha-slide on stage.

A police helicopter, a canine officer and some of the borough’s mounted officers attended with their horses.

Kids and cops lined up for hot dogs and hamburgers at the grill, tended by volunteers and officers from the 100th, 101st, 102nd, 103rd, 105th, 106th, 107th and 113th precincts covering Queens neighborhoods from Fresh Meadows to the Rockaways and from Woodhaven to Glen Oaks.
