Glen Oaks ‘A’ tops Bayside ‘B’

By The TimesLedger

The Glen Oaks 9- and 10-year-old team ‘A’ team keeps showing why it was tops in the in-house tournament. By far one of the best teams to come out of the Glen Oaks Little League in recent years, the team won its third game in a row and seventh overall Friday Aug. 24, beating the Bayside ‘B’ team, 18-6.

Bayside jumped on Glen Oaks’ s starter Scott Gandasegui, who couldn’t hold a two-run lead in the first inning, allowing five runs in bottom half of the first and one in the second. Regular season star and teammate Joey Caraballo came to the rescue and shut down the Bayside offense the rest of the game, striking out six batters to get his second win of the Rosenbluth Tournament. With the win, Caraballo gave the Glen Oaks All Stars a chance to make the playoffs in this year’s tournament.

Many of the Glen Oaks players contributed one way or the other with timely hitting, smart base running great defense and, of course, the solid pitching of Caraballo.

One of the hitting stars was Jonathan Kruczowy with a single, double and four RBls. Both of Kruczowy’s hits were in the middle of big rallies that determined the outcome of the game. Joey Bobrow also had a good day with the bat.

Glen Oaks manager Dave Pabon and coaches Hector Caraballo, Mark Gandasegui and Rich Bobrow have done a terrific job with this team.

In other action, the Glen Oaks Jiffy Lube Bulldogs capped off an exciting summer season by defeating the Glen Oaks ‘A’ team Saturday, raising their record to 7-7. The Bulldogs used six different pitchers during the game, Jay Hausdorf, Kevin Cheddie and Brian Biscotti didn’t allow a run, while Ray Potestio, Jonathan Hyatt and Sam Gehebe combined to allow only four runs.

Leading the offense was Kevin Cheddie with two hits, while Ray Potestio, Brian Biscotti, Jay Hausdorf, Billy Gillespie, Alex Rydzewski, Jonathan Hyatt, Anthony Civitano and Sam Gehebe all chipped in with hits. Ryan Paroulek turned in two strong innings behind the plate and Chris LeMelle and Pervez Khan each had good defensive games. For the Glen Oaks ‘A’ team, Chris Viso homered, Albert Marin tripled, Tommy McCarthy had two singles and James Reed and Greg Conway each singled and scored runs.

The Bulldog players wanted to thank ‘Little Bulldog’ Kaitlyn Biscotti for being the team mascot all season. The boys also want to wish their teammate Sam Gehebe all the best, as he is moving away.

After the game ended, the two Glen Oaks held a joint BBQ and a great time was had by all.
