Queens Village students honor firefighters

By Adam Kramer

The parents, teachers and students of the Queens Village Day School remembered the firefighters who lost their lives in the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center. They held a small ceremony and lunch for the members of Engine Co. 304 and Ladder Co. 162 of Queens Village.

“In our simple but sincere effort to honor New York City’s firefighters who sacrificed their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 as well as to honor and appreciate those firefighters that are with us,” said Vernetta Brown, executive director of the Queens Village Day School, “we, the staff and children of Queens Village Day School, want to pause for a moment to express our appreciation for their continued dedicated service.”

The school held the event because they wanted to show their gratitude to the FDNY and all that the local fire companies have done to help out Queens Village Day School.

The children sang songs, read letters of encouragement to the firefighters, paraded around the station house holding banners of appreciation, had a luncheon and presented the company with a plaque.
