Bayside eateries to offer sample fare at fundraiser

Anyone who has ever had trouble choosing from among Bayside’s many restaurants and eateries should be in heaven next week.

That’s because for one night only next week, more than 20 of Bayside’s many eating establishments will be represented in the same room at a charity fund-raiser organized by the Bayside Business Association.

Aptly named the “Taste of Bayside,” the event features samples of the best fare from a wide array of restaurants, including Bourbon Street, Monahan & Fitzgerald, VI Pizza, Marretta’s Bakery, and the Jackson Hole diner, just to name a few.

Last year’s inaugural “Taste of Bayside” brought in roughly $5,000 for both the business association and the Bayside Historical Society. But this year’s event, which costs $35 per person, will raise funds for World Trade Center relief efforts, said co-organizer Judy Limpert of the business association.

Limpert said the 2000 “Taste of Bayside” attracted about 250 people to the Officer’s Club at Fort Totten.

This year’s event has been shifted to Queensborough Community College in Bayside, said Limpert and co-organizer Dominick Bruccoleri, because the need for more space coupled with security concerns at Totten, a partial military base.

In the last several years Bayside has become known for its restaurants and fine dining, and many of Bell Boulevard’s offerings were expected to be represented at the Nov. 15 event.

Restaurants slated to take part in the second annual “Taste of Bayside” include: Erawan, Okinawa, Anthony’s Restaurant, Papazzio, Yeats’ Tavern, Bayside Milk Farm, Capriccio, Tequila Sunrise, First Edition, Il Vesuvio and Marbella.

The second annual “Taste of Bayside” was to be held Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Campus Center Lounge of Queensborough Community College from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
