St. Greg’s fourth-grade boys win championship

By The TimesLedger

St. Gregory the Great fourth-grade boys soccer team won the diocesan championship on Sunday, Nov. 18, with a 3-1 win over St. Frances de Sales.

St. Greg’s struck first with a goal by Billy Walt. Midfielders Ryan Cevallos, John Gallo, Pete Dukeman and Kenny Sharma did their part by keeping the ball in the deSales’ zone most of the first half. Forwards Connor Kennedy scored the go-ahead goal and Michael Harrington added the insurance goal to secure the win.

Chris Cahill and Kyle Hertler played a great game, literally using their heads. A strong defense was held by Jason Casale, Kevin Hargrove, Mark Anthony Marrero, Bobby Flood, Sean Murphy and Julian Traverso. Excellent in goal, as usual, was Kyle Chuber ,holding St. Frances to only one goal.

Coaches Ed Harrington, Bill Chuber and Mark Marrero deserve credit for coaching this team to its first diocesan championship. Congratulations to the coaches and the fourth-grade boys.
