Belmont Fair returns for fifth year of fun

The Belmont Stakes Fair, with more than 100 spectacular rides, games and free attractions returns to Belmont Park Racetrack for four big weekends, starting Friday.

The Belmont Stakes Fair returns April 12 for its fifth year to Belmont Park Racetrack, this time bigger and better than ever, featuring rides, games, free attractions and entertainment for entire families to enjoy. This year’s rides include the 200-foot Mark I roller coaster, the Thrilling Fireball and the Niagara Falls log flume.

Back by popular demand is the always-lovable Granpa Cratchet Puppet Show. Granpa hosts a fun-filled show packed with audience participation and informative lessons while always offering a great time. Fairgoers can also catch Granpa between shows driving around the fairgrounds in his puppet mobile.

Young and old alike will be amazed by the spectacular illusions performed by the magic of Gifford & Roy. The show includes disappearing animals, audience participation and other magical entertainment.

Returning for its second year is the Phillips Exotic Petting Zoo, which presents more than 50 exotic animals from several countries. The animals will be on display to pet and feed, providing exciting and educational fun for everyone.

Other attractions at this year’s fair include “The Backyard Circus,” an old-fashioned performance where kids can dress up in costumes and “join the show.” There is also the “Wild World of Animals” show, an educational and entertaining offering with exotic animals, audience participation and lots of fun.

This year’s fair will also play host to a number of special events including a demonstration and participation with The Home Depot Kids Workshop and a doughnut-eating contest hosted by Dunkin’ Donuts. The fair will also feature “Under The Lights,” a talent show held Saturday, April 27. Solo and group acts will compete for many exciting prizes, including a professional music video. Fair gates open Fridays at 5 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at noon. Fairgoers should enter through Gate 5 on the north side of Hempstead Turnpike just east of Cross Island Parkway. The fair can be also be reached by public transportation and is wheelchair-accessible.
