Bayside L.L.: Biordi Construction salvages tie with Jackson Hole

Texas Division

Biordi Construction 9, Jackson Hole 9. Biordi Construction jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in their regular season opener this week at Valle East Field in Bayside, but had to hang on late to salvage a 9-9 tie with a game Jackson Hole team.

Anthony Scianna and Tommy Karcinski led the offensive attack for Biordi to earn game balls for their hot bats. Scianna went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs while Karcinski drove in three runs with a bases-clearing double in the first inning.

Catcher Ben Gould drove in two runs and Sammy Rowen made the defensive play of the game in the final inning to save the game for Biordi. Jackson Hole was led by Andrew Goldstein went 2-for-2, two RBIs, James Shannon (1-for-1, one RBI) and Steven Toumanidis (1-for-2, two runs scored).

Monahan & Fitzgerald’s 15, R. Klein CPA 6. Both teams played very well in the opening game for each team. Kevin Durkan led Monahan’s with a 3-for-3 day at the plate including a two-run homer and threw two strong innings allowing only one run.

Danny Finn (four RBIs) started the scoring with a three-run homer in the first inning. He also struck out the side in the bottom of the last inning to preserve the win. Joseph Jensen contributed two triples and two RBIs for Monahan’s. Steven Arroyo threw three strong innings in his first appearance of the season and hit a booming two-run double for R Klein CPA.

Mittmen’s Medics 3, Papazzio’s Restaurant 3. Mittman’s Medics battled to a hard fought 3-3 tie with Papazzio’s Restaurant.

Mittman’s Medics were led by Dominic Formato. who pitched three scoreless innings, striking out nine batters, and doubling twice for two RBIs.

Stephen McNamara, Papazzio’s starting pitcher also pitched three scoreless innings with six strikeouts and contributed a RBI single. Nicholas Rodriguez of Mittman’s Medics pitched three strong innings and contributed a hit. Mittman’s offense was rounded out by a hit and RBI from William Hernandez.

Brian Wren pitched three effective innings for Papazzio’s and also singled with a run scored. Randall Gaskins led the Papazzio’s team with two runs batted in, including driving in the tying runs in the bottom of the fourth and the sixth inning.

Clearview Paints 5, Nicolosi Law 4. On Opening Day, Clearview Paints came out on top against Nicolosi Law 5-4 in this tough battle.

For Clearview Paints Jesse Pau pitched a masterful performance. Anthony Palermo also pitched great, and had a gold glove performance in the field. Patrick Rifino and Steven Koumides showed tremendous power at bat.

Nicolosi Law was led by Esteban Dilones who put on a batting show with two doubles and Yanni Malo who crushed a single and a double. Stephen De Maio and Natalie Pruden turned in outstanding performances defensively in the loss.

Minor League

Starlight Catering 10, Club Care 5. Led by the pitching of Michael Guzowski and Justin Bosco, Starlight Catering won their season opener over Club Care. The two combined to strike out 14 batters Starlight’s defense did the rest. Alex Chateau of Club Care had a booming triple to the opposite field to spark a 6th inning rally.

Pacific Lawn Sprinkler 10, Meric Law 1. Joseph Lumley and Anthony Polito combined for an overpowering pitching performance striking out 15 and allowing 1 hit..

The pitchers were handled beautifully by Stephen Dellafiora behind the plate.

The offensive attack was led by Danny Wagner, 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Michael Bilik, 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Michael Gregory, 3-for-3 and four RBIs.

David Underweiser for Meric Law pitched a gutsy five innings, striking out nine and allowing just two walks. Shortstop Scott Starr turned in some sparkling plays behind David. Brandon Rosenthal did a splendid job behind the plate and was responsible for spoiling the no-hitter.

Pacific Lawn Sprinkler 11, Bayside Milk Farm 6. Michael Gregory once again led the offense with 3 hits and 4 RBIs but was assisted greatly by Steven Kocal, also 3-for-3 and 2 RBIs and Danny Maher, 1-for-1 and a key walk to keep a late inning rally alive.

Bayside Milk Farm catcher Nicole Carroll went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a great putout at the plate. Michael Barringer added to the offense going 2-for-2 and 2 RBIs. Sebastion Poplawski played a flawless short and pitched a strong final inning.

Junior Division

Murphy’s Florist 5, Charlie’s Market 4. Trailing 4-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Michael Gold’s booming double tied the score and Chris Catalanotto’s solo homer won it for Murphy’s. Joe O’Connor pitched four innings of two hit ball to get the victory and Joe Bruno, Matt Bruno and Phil Varsam contributed to the offense while Joe Catalanotto, Jason Kilcheski, and Marinos Iacovou led the defense.

For Charlie’s Market, John Bradley and Mike Cadigan were each 2-for-3. Steven Balducci was 2-for-4 and pitched three strong innings.
