By The TimesLedger

In their opening game of the season, the St. Andrew’s Green Machine grabbed an early lead and never looked back on Saturday, beating St. Robert’s, 12-9. Andrew’s took a 4-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run double by John McEntee (2-for-4) and a two-run single by Matthew Routh (3-for-3).

McEntee pitched aggressively for St. Andrew’s, holding St. Robert’s to only four hits and three runs, while striking out six over four innings.

Andrew’s surged to a 8-3 lead in the second, behind Arton Haliti (1-for-3), Daniel Capera (2-for-3, walk), McEntee and Sean McEnerney (1-for-2, walk)

Sean McEnerney and Arton Haliti closed over the last three inning for St. Andrew’s, as Haliti struck out Robert’s final hitter in the seventh with the bases loaded to preserve 12-9 victory.

The three St. Andrew’s pitchers struck out 13 St. Robert’s batters while walking five.

St. Andrew’s team effort was further bolstered by the hitting of Billy Almon (1-for-1) and the defensive play of Michael Lopresti, Jimmy Cecco, Matt Galizia, Emilio Benitez, David Dominguez, Charlie Aquista and Evan Shin.
