Bayside, Newtown girls soccer battle to 1-1 tie

The PSAL Queens A girls’ soccer game between Newtown and Bayside came down to penalty kicks, or more appropriately, a pair of first-half penalties.

But both teams scored from the spot in the first half as the game ended in a 1-1 tie Friday at Bayside Athletic Field.

Alba Carrasquerro put the Pioneers (2-4-2 Queens A) in front midway through the first half, but Chelsea Johnson answered with 10 minutes left in the first half to tie the score for Bayside (3-2-2 Queens A).

Cardozo 3, Forest Hills 0. Vivian James had two goals and Patricia Sotrakis had a goal and two assists for Cardozo (7-0 Queens A). Forest Hills falls to 3-5.

Francis Lewis 2, Newcomers 0. Carolina Verna scored a goal in each half for Francis Lewis (4-2-2 Queens A). Newcomers is 0-5-1.

Townsend Harris 1, Bryant 0. Despite being decimated by injuries, including a badly sprained ankle suffered by junior midfielder Jaclyn Miccio, one of the top players in the borough, the Hawks (6-1-1 Queens A) still managed to come up with the win as Andi Strauss netted the lone goal in the first half. Bryant is 5-2-1.

Flushing 1, Arts and Business 0. Fiorela Diaz’s first half goal was the game-winner for Flushing (2-0-1 Queens B). Arts and Business is 1-2.

Van Buren 2, Hillcrest 1. Raquel Toc scored for the VeeBees (1-1-1 Queens B). Hillcrest falls to 2-1.

Richmond Hill 5, Beach Channel 0. Andrea Delgado netted a hat trick and Angie Lozano and Nickkit Ramnire also scored for Richmond Hill (3-0-1 Queens B). Beach Channel is 0-4-1.

Bryant 2, Francis Lewis 2. Lindsey Molina and Viviana Andiano scored while Eleni Petropoulous and Melissa Lam added assists for the Owls.

Forest Hills 3, Jamaica 2. Kamila Barnes netted two goals and Tiffany Thompson added another for Forest Hills. Jamaica is 0-7.

Townsend Harris 7, Newtown 1. Kathryn Dubowski had a hat trick and Michelle Berrios and Nikkia Hanson also added tallies for the Hawks while Maria Marrozo scored the lone goal for Newtown.

Cardozo 7, Bayside 0. Sotirakis had four goals and an assist, Carolyn Durniak had two goals and two assists and Nikki Tzimas added a goal for the Judges.
