Van Brunt leads Christ the King over Holy Cross

The Christ the King Royals got a solid pitching performance from starters Kenny Van Brunt, who allowed just three hits and struck out seven as CK defeated the Holy Cross Knights, 10-3, Monday afternoon at the Prellar Baseball Complex on Hillside Avenue.

The Royals improved to 15-5 overall and 4-4 in league play with the win.

Archbishop Molloy 13, St. Edmund Prep 1. The Stanners improved to 8-2 in league play, as starting pitcher T.J. O’Leary allowed just four hits, while striking out five to get the win. Offensively, Anthony Vernaci had two hits and two RBIs and Keith Hahn had two hits and drove in one. Molloy is 11-3 overall.

Xaverian 8, Monsignor McClancy 2. The Clippers avenged their only league loss, defeating the Crusaders Monday. Michael Hernandez drove in three with two hits and pitcher Michael Mongelluzzo fanned five through five innings. Xaverian improved to 5-5 overall an d 7-1 in league play while McClancy’s record dipped to 4-7 in the CHSAA.

Archbishop Molloy 15, Christ the King 3. Gil Valle had three hits and three RBIs for the Stanners in a dominating win over the Royals Friday. (10-3, 7-2 CHSAA).

Xaverian 6, St. Francis Prep 4. The Clippers were led by Mike Perez, who drove in two, cementing the club’s hold on first place in the Brooklyn/Queens Diocesan. (14-5, 6-1 CHSAA).

Bishop Ford 7, Cathedral Prep 3. The Crusaders fell to Ford for the second time in less than a week as Jason Santana’s two hits and two RBIs propelled the undefeated Brooklyn school to victory . (5-0 CHSAA B).

Christ the King 10, St. Francis Prep 4. The Royals got s 3-for-4 performance from Elvin Millan, who added two RBIs in the upset win over the Terriers last week.

Monsignor McClancy 2, Holy Cross 0. Jon Russnak’s solo round-tripper was enough offense for McClancy, which shutout the Knights. (4-6 CHSAA).

Bishop Ford 3, Cathedral Prep 0. Cathedral scratched just two hits off of Bishop Ford starter Donnie Mannino.

Xaverian 6, Archbishop Molloy 2. The Stanners fell to the Clippers for the second time this year, as starter Chris Garcia fanned nine while going the distance for Xaverian. (13-5, 5-1 CHSAA).

CHSAA Softball

Christ the King 3, St. Francis Prep 2. Kristin Healy was 2-for-3 with an RBI, but it took an error to allow Angel Liveri to score in the top of the seventh inning to seal the deal for the Royals. Christ the King is now 7-3 in league play, winning its sixth straight.

The Mary Louis Academy 13, Archbishop Molloy 1. Hilltoppers' starter Stephanie Gozdziewski allowed just one hit, while teammate Jennifer McGroarty contributed four hits and four RBIs, raising the team's record to 14-3 overall and 8-0 in league play.

Christ the King 14, St. John's Prep 2. Kristin Healy provided the offense, going 3-for-4, six RBIs and three runs scored, while striking out six for the Royals.

The Mary Louis Academy 5, St. Francis Prep 3. Jennifer Flynn's sixth-inning, run-scoring single put Mary Louis, which had rallied from a 3-0 defit in the fifth on Jen McGroarty's three-run double, in front to stay.
