DG Baseball: Re-Max Universal scores sweep over Lexicon Construction

DG Minor Division

Re-Max Universal Real Estate squared off twice this past week with Lexicon Construction, coming away with two wins by the scores of 14-4 and 8-4. In the first game, Joe Bell had two clutch hits, knocking in four runs and giving Re-Max the early lead. Patrick Berndt continued to swing a hot bat with three hits, including a triple and home run, while Manuel Barcena’s three hits and Kenny Lehr’s two hits and three runs scored helped to spark rallies. On the mound Kenny Lehr blanked Lexicon during his three innings of work, while Anthony Romano came on to pitch well over the last two innings to wrap up the win. For Lexicon, Tommy Vonortas had a two-run homer, while David Hazin, Joey Pallazzolo and George Holevas each had solid hits for their team.

In the second game between these two clubs, Re-Max jumped out to an early 5-0 margin, but Lexicon fought back on a two-run fourth inning homer by Mark McClean and a two-run double off the bat of David Hazin. For Re-Max, Patrick Berndt opened the game with three innings of shutout ball, which gave his team the momentum they needed for the win, while Dennis Brennan had great game with a three-run triple and a great catch and tag on a close play at the plate that halted Lexicon’s rally in the fifth. David Legaz had an important RBI during Re-Max’s second inning rally, while Patrick Thompson, DJ Rooney and Ediz Serman each scored during the inning.

In a well-played game by both teams, Western Beef beat Millco Taping by a score of 8-4. Mike Formato continued his strong play by scoring three runs and pitching three innings, giving up only two runs. Jeffrey Johnson and Eric Breidbart scored two runs each for Western Beef. A strong defensive effort was put in by Western Beef catcher Dean Lahana, who also got on base twice. Mathew Corchado reached base all three times up for Millco and scored one run. Nicholas Castagliola contributed for Millco by also scoring a run while getting on base twice.

In a wild rematch, Western Beef outlasted Millco Taping by a score of 13-12. Anthony Gismundi continued his strong hitting and scored one run for Western Beef. Vinny Depperman and Chris Coppolino played strong games, while also scoring a run each. A good all-around effort was put in by Frank Obidienzo, Jon Pezzino, Nick Psoras and Mark Schmidt for Western Beef. John Giantiempo, Nicholas Castagliola and Alesio Santoro scored two runs each as Millco came back after falling behind by seven runs, scoring six runs in the last inning and falling just one run short.

DG Major Division

Inter-County beat a tough Chief team, 5-2. Joey Depperman pitched three scoreless innings for Inter-County and had one hit. Julian Cazares came on in the fourth inning after an Inter-County pitcher hit two batters, pitching a strong game and contributing at the plate by getting a hit. Mike Kern, Chris Fransechini and Joey Anderkovich each contributed with their bats. Nick Coppolino pitched in by bunting for a base hit. For the Chiefs, Mike Cacciopo pitched a strong final three innings and kept his team in the game.
