DG Baseball: Edward McKee Post No. 131 bests Ridgewood Savings, 7-2

DG Girls Softball

In a game called by rain in the middle of the fifth inning, Edward McKee Post No. 131 beat Ridgewood Savings, 7-2. The McKee girls got a boost with a home run by Elena Brandes, scoring three runs in a five-run inning. All-around great play by Nicole Agnello, Tiffany Lawrence, Ariana Barongi, Nicole Naposki, Maria Rizo and Corinne Lippert contributed to the win. A fine job pitching was done by Christina Agnello. For Ridgewood, Christine McGrory did a great job on the mound and at the plate. Nicole Palermo and Christine Sanders also had two hits each.

DG Minor Division

Re/Max Universal 11 Dr. Eddy A. Ferriera D.D.S., 9. Re/Max jumped out to a seven-run lead thanks to a solid three-run double by Anthony Romano and a three-run home run by Kenny Lehr. Dr. Ferriera fought back to knot the score at 7-7, the key hit a two-run double by Steven Foley. The score remained tied until the fourth inning, when Patrick Berndt launched a grand slam, giving Re/Max the lead for good, as Anthony Romano came on to pitch the last inning and wrap up the win.

Re/Max Universal 10 Cristom Construction 1. Re/Max received strong pitching performances from both Patrick Berndt and Kenny Lehr, as they combined to halt the potent Cristom bats. Re/Max got off to a fast start, building up a seven-run lead on an RBI triple by Patrick Berndt and clutch RBI singles from George Theofonis and Joseph Townsend. Re/Max added to its total in the second inning on run-scoring singles by Manuel Barcena and Ediz Serman. Cristom received outstanding play from slick-fielding shortstop, Shane Lowery, a home run by Rich DiNardo and strong pitching from T.J. DeVito and Travis Lippert.

DG Major Division

Michael Lowery and Julian Cazares combined to pitch a beautiful game for Inter-County Auto in a 5-2 win over a tough Pizza Chef team. Mike Lowery and Philip Cho scored the first two runs for Inter-County in the second inning. Adam Breidbart tied the game up in the top of the fifth for Pizza Chef. In the bottom of the fifth, Joey Depperman tripled over the rightfielder’s head to score Chris Franceshini and Julian Cazares, giving Inter-County the win.

In another well-played game, Joey Depperman and Julian Cazares pitched three innings each for Inter-County Auto in a 6-3 win over a very good Dr. Shapiro team. Michael Kern and Julian Cazares each contributed with some nice hitting for Inter-County. The big hit of the game belonged to John Sambucci of Inter-County, who hit a tremendous home run over the leftfielder’s head. Brian Gabriel, Nick Coppolino and Joey Anderkavich each contributed with solid play for Inter-County.
