SE Queens group to hold first ever Summer Junior Olympic Games

Southeast Queens Olympic Committee, Inc. a non profit corporation announces its first Summer Junior Olympic Games within Southeast Queens for youths up to the 12th grade. The inaugural games will be held during the week of July 20 through July 27, Weekday events will begin at 4 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. Weekend events will begin at noon. The opening ceremony, which includes a community parade and marching bands, will be held at Roy Wilkins Park on Saturday, July 20 at 2 p.m. The closing ceremony and awarding of medals will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 4 p.m.

The main venue is Roy Wilkins Park. Other venues throughout Southeast Queens including York College, Keith Williams Park (formerly known as Liberty Park), Brookville Park and Springfield Park will be used. The purpose of the Summer Junior Olympic Games is to build character and discipline in our youths through the exhibition of their athletic skills which will help in our goal to unite our communities, Allan G. Pope, state Assemblyman William Scarborough, and Southern Queens Park Association are the organizers.
