Police Blotter: Woodside man charged with murder in stabbing

WOODSIDE — A Woodside man was arrested last Thursday in connection with the stabbing death of his neighbor, police said.

David Llapa, 24, of 40-29 67th St., was charged with murder, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon after he was identified in two line-ups conducted at the 108th Precinct, police said.

He was implicated in the death of Anacasio Rivera, of 37-15 64th St., who had been repeatedly stabbed around 4:07 a.m. April 11 at the corner of 64th Street and 39th Avenue and later died at Elmhurst Hospital Center, police said.

Woodside woman was strangled: Cops

WOODSIDE — The death of a Woodside woman in her apartment two months ago has been ruled a homicide, police said.

Leah Tagliaferri, 32, of 61-20 43rd Ave., was found dead April 6 at 5:20 a.m. on the bathroom floor of her apartment, police said.

The Medical Examiner’s office has ruled her death was by strangulation, the authorities said. Police were investigating.

Astoria man was strangled: Police

ASTORIA — The medical examiner ruled that the death of a 37-year-old man found May 5 at 9 a.m. at 71-11 Astoria Blvd. was a homicide by strangulation, police said.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation was ongoing.

Attempted rape at Astoria school

ASTORIA — An 11-year-old boy attempted to rape a 12-year-old girl Monday inside IS 126 on 21st Street near 31st Avenue, police said.

The girl was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center for evaluation after the 11:30 a.m. incident and was subsequently treated and released, police said.

The boy was arrested and charged with attempted rape, authorities said.

White powder worries Ridgewood hospital staff

RIDGEWOOD — A suspicious envelope with white powder inside was opened by a clerk at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., police said.

Emergency services units and the Fire Department responded and secured the envelope, which was removed for analysis by the Department of Health, police said.

No injuries were reported. The investigation was ongoing.

Man, 84, dies in 2-car accident, woman hurt

REGO PARK — An 84-year-old man died Monday in a two-car accident along Woodhaven Boulevard, police said.

The man was attempting to make a left turn westbound onto Furmanville Avenue at 1:38 p.m. when his 1996 Chevy struck a 1996 Lexus going southbound on Woodhaven Boulevard, police said.

The Chevy driver was pronounced dead at St. John’s Hospital at 2:05 p.m., while the 22-year-old operator of the Lexus was not injured, police said. A passenger in the Lexus, a 25-year-old woman, was taken to St. John’s Hospital with minor injuries.

The Lexus driver was issued two violations for having an unregistered, uninsured vehicle, police said.

New Maspeth bank avoids being robbed

MASPETH — A bank robber passed a note demanding cash from the teller at the Washington Mutual Bank at 69-55 Grand Ave. Friday at 1:50 p.m., police said.

But the would-be robber fled without taking any money, police said. No arrests have been made. The investigation was ongoing.

Rego Park man arrested after fondling woman

MANHATTAN — A Rego Park man was arrested Sunday for allegedly fondling a woman at the Puerto Rican Day Parade, police said.

Officers arrested Roberto Flores, 32, of 64-62 Booth St., at 12:30 p.m. at the corner of 45th Street and 5th Avenue, police said.

Man charged in hold-up at Queens Blvd. McDonald’s

ELMHURST — A man held up a McDonald’s restaurant Saturday by threatening to detonate explosives, police said.

Louis Casa, 42, was charged with robbery and criminal possession of stolen property after police arrested him at the corner of Woodhaven Boulevard and the Long Island Expressway in a livery cab, which he used to flee, police said.

Casa allegedly entered the 91-19 Queens Blvd. McDonalds at 11:20 p.m., told the clerk he was carrying explosives and threatened to ignite them with a lighter he brandished, police said.

The clerk opened the cash register and Casa allegedly reached over to take $250, police said.

Truck injures officer at Astoria intersection

ASTORIA — A police officer was struck by a white truck as he attempted to cross the street around noon June 5 at 35th Avenue and Steinway Street, police said.

He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition, police said. The incident was deemed an accident. No arrests have been made, and no summonses were issued.

Dye packet foils Kew Gardens heist

KEW GARDENS HILLS — A pile of dye-stained money exploded in the arms of a bank robber as he fled the HSBC Bank at 156-02 Aguilar Ave. Friday at 1:25 p.m., police said.

The robber had passed a note to the teller demanding money, police said. No arrests have been made, and the investigation was ongoing.

Girl, 3, injured critically after car hits tree in SOP

SOUTH OZONE PARK — A 3-year-old girl was listed in critical condition after striking her head against a car windshield Sunday, police said.

A car traveling in the service lane at Aqueduct Racetrack struck a tree at 150th Avenue and 114th Street at 4:20 p.m., police said. Although she had been buckled into the front seat, the crash propelled the girl into the windshield, police said.

She was taken to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition, authorities said. No summonses were issued.

Far Rockaway infant found not breathing in crib dies

FAR ROCKAWAY — A 6-month-old child was pronounced dead at St. John’s Hospital Tuesday morning after he was found at 8 a.m. not breathing in his crib at Beach 15th Street, police said.

The investigation was ongoing, and no arrests had been made.

Suspect arrested in Edgemere after hitting NYPD auto

EDGEMERE — A subject who was under police observation was arrested June 5 after striking an unmarked NYPD auto with his car, police said.

Detectives had been watching Ricardo Sudlow, 21, around Beach 40th Street at 5 p.m. when he attempted to drive away from the scene but struck an unmarked police vehicle, authorities said.

He then left the vehicle and entered 453 Beach 40th Street, police said. He was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident at 4:30 a.m. after police obtained a warrant, authorities said.

‘A’ train strikes man at Ozone Park station

OZONE PARK — A 21-year-old man was struck by an incoming train as he sat on the southbound “A” platform of the Oxford Avenue/104th Street subway station at 5:10 a.m. Sunday, police said.

The man sustained head and leg injuries and was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

Sanitation worker charged in Springfield Gardens assault

SPRINGFIELD GARDENS — An off-duty sanitation worker was arrested after allegedly getting involved in a dispute with a security guard in front of 134-15 166th Pl. Saturday at 11:30 p.m., police said.

The sanitation worker, Anthony Aston, was charged with assault and harassment, police said.

Man shot in attempted robbery in Queens Village

QUEENS VILLAGE — A 32-year-old man was shot twice in the right leg during an attempted robbery Friday in the 105th Precinct, police said.

The victim was taken to Winthrop Hospital, police said. The robber, an Asian male wearing all black, fled the scene with a silver gun, authorities said.

Police aide charged in Queens Village

QUEENS VILLAGE — A police communications technician was arrested and charged with third-degree assault Saturday at 2 p.m. in the 105th Precinct, police said.

Bruce Dickerson was suspended from his duties at 8:30 p.m., authorities said.

Bronx man arrested on charges of robbing banks in Queens, L.I.

BAYSIDE — A Bronx man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a series of bank robberies in Queens and Long Island, including two in the 111th Precinct, police said.

Anthony Saciola, 38, of 1577 Paulding Ave., was charged with robbery and criminal possession of a weapon for allegedly displaying a gun and demanding currency from bank tellers in five separate incidents, police said.

Saciola is accused of holding up the same branch Greenpoint Savings Bank at 211-11 Northern Blvd. on two occasions in September 2001, stealing a total of $7,600 between the two heists, police said.

Armed robbers tie man up, rob his Fresh Meadows home

FRESH MEADOWS — A 60-year-old man was tied up Saturday during a robbery of his home in the 107th Precinct, police said.

Two men wearing masks and armed with handguns pushed their way into the apartment when the resident answered a knock at his door around 11 p.m., police said. The man was tied up while the robbers searched the apartment and took an undetermined amount of cash and jewelry before fleeing on foot, police said.

The victim, who was not injured, untied himself and called the authorities, police said.

The investigation was ongoing.

Flushing construction worker buried under dirt, rubble

FLUSHING — A 42-year-old construction worker was buried for about five minutes around 3:30 p.m. Friday when a large mound of dirt and rubble collapsed at a site at Barclay Avenue and Parsons Boulevard, police said.

The worker was dug out by colleagues and taken to New York Hospital Queens in critical condition, police said.

New Hyde Park man found shot in head

NEW HYDE PARK — A 66-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the head at 5:53 p.m. Tuesday at 82-58 Langdale St., police said. The medical examiner was to determine the cause of death.

2 masked men rob Little Neck store

LITTLE NECK — Two men forced their way into a store at 252-17 Northern Blvd. at 8:42 a.m. Saturday and held a woman at gunpoint, demanding money, police said.

The robbers, who were dressed in black and wore ski masks, took an undetermined amount of money, police said.

No arrests had been made. The investigation was ongoing.

Man dies of stab wounds after Flushing attack

FLUSHING — A 29-year-old man died Friday after being stabbed numerous times in the chest by an unidentified man at 4:25 a.m. at 133-16 39th Ave., police said.

He was taken to New York Hospital Queens and pronounced dead at 5:40 a.m., authorities said.

No arrests had been made.

109th Precinct school safety agent arrested in Nassau

NASSAU — A school safety agent assigned to the 109th Precinct was arrested Saturday by Nassau County Police and charged with petit larceny, police said.

Agent Sharon Gordon was subsequently suspended from her duties, police said.
