GlenPark Bulldogs raising money for Cooperstown trip

By The TimesLedger

Two years ago, Joe Conway, then president of the Glen Oaks Little League, had a dream, a dream take a group of boys from the Glen Oaks, Floral Park and Bellerose communities and enter a nationwide tournament in Cooperstown N.Y. With a lot of hard work and fund raising, Conway’s dream came true. On July 29, 2000 a group of boys played their first national game against the Tuluka Titans from California.

This year the dream is reborn on July 13. Managers Bob Kruczowy, Rich Biscotti and Dave Pabon will be bringing 12 boys from Queens to once again compete in this prestigious Cooperstown tournament. But they need your help. The cost to send each player is approximately is $500.

On Saturday, June 15, and Father’s Day Sunday June 16, the GlenPark Bulldogs will be having a fundraising event to help offset the cost of their trip. Thanks to Jeff Wheller and his Minutemen Press of Franklin Square, which printed more than 500 discount cards, the team will be setting up camp at two locations, The Glen Oaks Shopping Center and The Lake Success Shopping Center and will be offering these discount cards for sale. The cost of the cards are only $5 and offer discounts at the following local establishments: Burger King , McDonald’s, Carvel, The Hillside Paint Depot, Jiffy lube and Modell’s. The cards can be used as often as you like and do not expire until January, 2003.

The Glenpark Bulldogs would like to also thank all of the above mentioned sponsors as well as W&W Cleaning Services of Rockville Center, Night Marketing Inc. of College Point, John Hurley of Goldis Financial Group, Inc. of Garden City, Steve Piesner of Jiffy Lube Inc. of Bayshore and Hector Carabello of Modell’s. These business have all gone above and beyond in helping make the Cooperstown dream a reality.
