Fitness Consultant Devil Rays crowned DAC Major champs

By The TimesLedger

The Fitness Consultant Devil Rays won the DAC Major League championship by defeating the Marlins, 9-6, in the hard-fought decisive game.

The Devil Rays finished in last place during the regular season, but came together as a team to make an amazing title run, winning four of five playoff games against stiff competition.

Danny D’Emidio’s masterful pitching performance secured the victory, as he hurled three scoreless innings to slam the door on the battling Marlins. Renny Blanco’s spectacular play at third base shut down a Marlins rally and his daring baserunning brought home the winning run.

Derek Cafasso blasted an RBI double, scored two runs and pitched three solid innings. Alberto Perez, knocked in a big insurance run with a booming triple. Stefanos Tsipas was brilliant behind the plate, pouncing on loose balls and throwing out runners. Joe Cornetta was 3-for-3 and dashed around the bases to score two runs. Billy Malo continued his hot hitting by slapping a key single. Tommy Chimarios reached base safely and came around to score a vital run.

John Mariani played his usual fine defense at shortstop. Mike Manatrizio worked out a walk and flew around the bases to score the game’s final run. Ian Salisbury pitched in with tough at bats and hustle in the field.

The Devil Rays would like to congratulate the Marlins for excellent performance on the field and their great sportsmanship off the field. The Devil Rays also want to extend their appreciation to Commissioner Frank Sgambeti for his leadership during the season and for his efforts to get the final in despite less than ideal weather conditions. Special thanks to Eric Sgambeti for his groundskeeping work.
