By The TimesLedger

The 15- and 16-year-old Glen Oaks Hillside Liquor team opened their summer league schedule with two victories this week.

On July 8, the Glen Oaks team bombed a team from Mitchell Linden, 16-4. The offense was paced by David Chapman, who went 3-for-4, including a single, triple and home run with four RBIs, and Jon Dilan, who tripled, hit a grand slam home run and drove in six.

Others who contributed were Stephen Gold, who singled and walked three times while scoring four times, Todd Green, who doubled and walked twice, Adam Yager, who tripled, Adam Potash, who walked three times, and Andre Plair, who had a single, RBI, walk and played sparkling defense.

On July 10, the Glen Oaks team battled back from a 9-0 deficit to defeat the St. John’s Baptist team from Far Rockaway, 12-11.

In this game, the Glen Oaks boys were playing short-handed, but managed to be very patient at the plate by drawing eight walks, which led to four runs.

However, the big blow was a two-out grand slam home run by Gabby Hernandez to highlight a big 12-run third inning. Matt Carneiro also had a big game for Glen Oaks, going 3-for-3. Todd Green pitch four innings in relief to seal the victory.
