DAC Sophomore League
The Pathmark Grizzlies held on to their first-place standing as they edged the Peter Pan Games Blue Devils, 38-35. Leading for the Grizzlies with 13 points each were Kerry Chang and James Lizzul. Matthew Stein scored seven, Trone Frazier put four points up and had eight blocked shots. Vincent Vita and Rob Fielder scored two points each. The Blue Devils hung tough with 14 points scored by Justin Cugini. Frankie Davi and Allesandro Santorelli scored seven points each. Matt Kelly scored four points and Jenna Fogelman and Andrew Reyes had two points each.
Family Pizza Jayhawks 45, Marino Brothers Wizards 40. The Jayhawks jumped out to big lead then had to hang on for a 45-40 win. Roger Pfeffer of the Jayhawks had a big game with 20 points and 10 rebounds. James Turck and George Rowen scored eight points each. Derek Sucato scored six points and Jake Epstein scored one point. The Wizards came back strong behind Eric Yue’s 17 points. Elkin Jimenez sored 12 points, Angelo Giokas scored nine points and Joey Priolo scored two points.
McDonald’s Little Neck Nets 50, McDonald’s Bayside Jazz 46. The Nets were up by 20 points in the first half . The Jazz made a strong comeback, but fell short of a win. The Nets had a balanced attack with seven players scoring in the game. Michael Buttaffoco scored 16 point, Michael Wren and Matt DiGirolomo scored 10 points each, Lawrence Frankel scored three points, and Michael Leon and Izzy Klien scored two points each. The Jazz comeback was led by Zack Simon with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Eric Strauss scored 12 points, Frank Montalvo scored nine points, Derek Louttit scored four points and Zack Frank scored two points.
DAC Junior League
Pathmark Stores Oragemen 77, Color Carton Blue Devils 65. The Orangemen won a hard-fought contest with Aaron Mitrani getting 28 points and Thomas Hubany 20. Sean Redican added nine with Andrew Pagnozzi, Josh King and George Koutsouros adding seven each. The Blue Devils had 12 from Justin Yeager, 11 from Angelo Castanos, 10 from Garrett Semenetz and nine from Miguel Gonzalez. Adam Fusfeld added two three-pointers.
Goldstein Greenlaw Tar Heels 68, DePhillips Sports Wolverines 42. The Tar Heel were led by Paul Lavoie with 31 points and Max Reznick with 14. Julius Wells added 13, while Mike Granato and Sal Carollo each chipped in four. The Wolverines had 17-point effort from Martin Dushaj, 13 from Evan Lash, six from Charlies Volpe and five from Robbie Hetzron.
Stabile and Stabile Red Storm 53, Goldstein and Greenlaw Tar Heels 38. The Red Storm won a low-scoring game led by Jeremy Kohn with 12 points. Matt DeMatteis had 11, while Ricky Honya, Marco Cerbone, Frank Loaiggio and Phil Varsam added four each. Mike Kestenbaum also had 10 points. The Tar Heels had nine points by Alex Morales, 12 from Julius Wells, seven from Mike Granato and four from Dan Gutman.
Ashlar Mechanical Wildcats 40, McDonald’s of Bayside Bruins 34. The Wildcats outlasted the Bruins, led by Dominick Abbatte’s 11 points and Steve Neftaly’s 10. Keith Newman and Ben Simmons had five each. The Bruins had 23 from Mike Atzlan and six from Dennis Bonano.
Marino Bros. Huskies 68, DePhillips Sports Wolverines 43. The Huskies rolled, led by Jason Minnella’s 26 points. Aaron Sebag added 14, David Chung eight and Zach Karow six. The Wolverines had 13 from Robbie hetzron and Evan Lash. Nick Grosso and Charlie Volpe had four each.
Pathmark Stores Oragemen 74, Utopia Family Chiropratic Cardinal 69. The Orangemen won a hard-fought struggle led by Aaron Mitrani with 29 points and Thomas Hubany’s 25. Josh King had 10 and Chris Pagnozzi six. The Cardinal had a big 30-point effort from Tony Vitiglio, whileAdam Dilluvio added 28. Dan Sackett chipped in nine.
