Team Arcadia wraps up stellar sailing campaign

This past season was an exciting and challenging one for Team Arcadia from Douglaston. From purely non-spinnaker racing, the team expanded its racing program to include both spinnaker and non-spinnaker races with spectacular success.

Not only did they win some of the most prestigious races on Long Island Sound, but once again secured The Yacht Racing Association of Long Island Sound’s Kings Point Trophy for first overall in class on Long Island Sound for the third consecutive year, The Stamford Trophy Series for the fourth consecutive year and The Competitors Trophy for first in class in the YRALIS spring championships.

Individual first place trophies included Seawanhaka Yacht Club’s Cayenne Cup for the third consecutive year, Huntington Day Race, The Stamford Overnight for the fourth consecutive year, New York AC Block Island Feeder Race first in division, first overall for the second consecutive year, The North Shore Yacht Club Day Race for the second consecutive year and first to finish, best elapsed time for Stamford Yacht Club’s Race to the Vineyard Cornfield Point Trophy, placing second in division overall.

Additionally there were second place finishes in The Lloyd’s Trophy Race, third place in the Mayor’s Cup Race, New York AC Stratford Shoal Race, third overall for the Knickerbocker Yacht Club’s Warshaw Memorial Race and fourth in The Riverside YC Stratford Shoal Race and Lloyd Harbor YC Katrina Cup .

Arcadia is a Beneteau 375 skippered by Quentin Thomas of the Douglaston Yacht Squadron with a crew of men and women both from the neighborhood and further a field, but all amateurs. They are Mark Aiston, Bob Coddington, Peter and Alexandria McGuire, Chris Kitson, Al Kelly, Robert Killenberger, Waiter Mueller, Tom Oliva, Jonitthan Parisen and Manfred Tichter.
