Ozone Park father kills one son, stabs the other: Cops

By Alex Davidson

A father plunged a knife into his 32-year-old son in Ozone Park Saturday night, killing him and wounding another son when a domestic dispute over money turned violent, police said.

Shibaran Seecharan, 59, of 90-02 Sutter Ave., first stabbed his 32-year-old son Lakeraj Seecharan in the chest and then stabbed his other son, 25-year-old Jaipersaud Seecharan, when he tried to intervene, police said of the incident that occurred at 9:51 p.m. The younger son was stabbed in the left arm and the chest area, police said.

Police said the father and elder son were fighting over money but would not confirm reports that the family was arguing over a mortgage payment.

Emergency units took Lakeraj Seecharan to Jamaica Hospital where officials pronounced him dead less than half an hour after he was stabbed at 10:15 p.m., police said. The victim’s younger brother was also taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was treated, and has since been released.

Police arrested Shibaran Seecharan and charged him with second- degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon and assault.

Police recovered the knife allegedly used in the stabbings at the scene. They said there were no previous domestic incident reports filed at the family’s residence and that the investigation was ongoing.

The front door to the family’s apartment sat open Sunday afternoon as relatives and friends poured into the brick, two-story home to offer their condolences.

One couple seen leaving the house said the family was too distraught to discuss the altercation with reporters.

Outside about a dozen men gathered on the street across from the apartment, leaning against a car with their eyes fixed on the door. One of the men said he did know the family, but not well enough to comment on the incident. He said he and the other men came out to the house after hearing about the slaying.
