St. Andrew Avellino: Sixth-graders defeat St. Kevin’s, 47-28

The St. Andrew’s Bantams advanced to the second round of the playoffs following an impressive 47-28 victory over St. Kevin’s at the St. Gregory’s Gym on Sunday, Feb. 18.

St. Andrew’s played without Brandon Kubic, Angela Barbieri and Robert Pagan while successfully adjusting with players who stepped forward and met the challenge.

Julies Wells carried St. Kevin’s in the first half, as Kevin’s took a 20-18 lead into the locker room, following Wells’ back-to-back threes.

James Williams sparked St. Andrew’s comeback with his own back-to-back threes, as St. Andrew’s pulled ahead, 34-26, early in the fourth quarter. Emilia Benite, the St. Andrew’s center, played aggressive defense, contributing four blocks and 14 boards. John McEntee had an outstanding effort for St. Andrew’s Big Green, as he scored a triple-double adding 10 points, 12 boards and 10 assists. St. Andrew’s team efforts showed across the board, as contributions by Jamel Williams (21) John McEntee (10) Kerri White (six) James Kaso (two) James Turck (four) Emillo Benitez (four) and Mike Ballesty, Bradley Jacques and Matt Galizia defensively carried the Big Green to victory.
